LE PARC

Naomie e Maxime si incontrano in un parco un assolato pomeriggio d’estate. È il loro primo appuntamento, e timidi silenzi scandiscono il loro vagare tra i sentieri poco battuti. Pian piano, pudicamente, si avvicinano, si accarezzano, si innamorano. Non servono a molto le parole tra i prati erbosi sfiorati dal sole, tra due giovani uniti dal desiderio. Ma col calare del sole arriva il momento di salutarsi, si scioglie l’incantesimo, e quello che era sembrato un dolce sogno si tramuta lentamente in un incubo. Le parc è una fiaba moderna che rievoca la potenza del cinema muto per parlare di temi quali l’adolescenza, la scoperta del desiderio e della sessualità e l’incomunicabilità ai tempi dei social media, giocando col cinema di genere ed i suoi linguaggi.

Naomie and Maxime meet each others a sunny summer afternoon in a park. It is their first date and shy silences articulate their wander between the few frequented paths. They slowly, modestly, move closer, caress each other, fall in love. Words don’t help on the grassy field touched by the sun, between two kids joined by desire. But as the sun goes down the moment to say goodbye arrive, the spell undo, and what was seemed like a sweet dream slowly turns into a nightmare. Le parc is a modern tale that recall the power of silent cinema to talk about themes as the adolescence, the discovery of desire and sexuality and the incommunicability in social media era, playing with cinema genres and its languages.

THE LOVE WITCH

La strega Elaine è una seduttrice seriale e con l’aiuto di pozioni e allucinogeni rende schiavi tutti gli uomini che incrociano il suo cammino. In realtà Elaine è piena di speranze romantiche sul principe azzurro, e proprio non si capacita di come tutti i suoi amanti facciano una brutta fine. Anna Biller omaggia e ricrea l’estetica dei B-movies in technicolor degli anni ’60 per una commedia nera che fa satira sui luoghi comuni riguardanti entrambi i sessi, ma principalmente sul femminile: se Elaine sogna l’amore perfetto da romanzo rosa, seducendo gli uomini tramite una sessualità iperbolica e una retorica iper maschilista, la sua “seconda personalità” da strega è quella di una valchiria vendicatrice sadica e implacabile.

Witch Elaine is a serial seductress and with the aid of potions and hallucinogens she enslaves all the men crossing her path. But actually, Elaine is full of romantic hopes about her prince charming, and she just does not understand how all her lovers come to a bad end. Anna Biller honors and recreates the aesthetics of B-movies in technicolor of the '60s for a black comedy that satirizes on the clichés regarding both sexes, but mainly on the female’s: if Elaine dreams of the perfect romance seducing men through her hyperbolic sexuality and a male-dominated rhetoric, her "second personality" as a witch is that of a sadistic and relentless avenger Valkyrie.

EL FUTURO PERFECTO

Xiaobin ha 17 anni e ha appena raggiunto i genitori in Argentina. Non parla una parola di spagnolo ma, in pochi giorni, riesce ad ottenere un lavoro in un supermercato cinese. Per superare l’immenso scoglio linguistico che determina la sua difficoltà ad ambientarsi nella nuova realtà, Xiaobin decide di iscriversi segretamente a un corso di spagnolo. E ad ogni lezione, alla ragazza non rimane che testare le suo nuove conoscenze sul campo. È così che, quasi per un obbligato esercizio didattico, decide di accettare l’invio di Vijay ad un appuntamento. Benché i due ragazzi, indiano lui, cinese lei, abbiano una chiara difficoltà comunicativa, iniziano una relazione segreta. E la relazione va avanti, così come le lezioni di spagnolo, e più la ragazza migliora più si cala nella sceneggiatura del film. El futuro perfecto è un prodotto insolito che, mischiando i linguaggi del cinema documentario e di quello di finzione, riesce a ragionare non soltanto su temi quali l’emigrazione e la diversificazione culturale ma porta avanti un studio sul linguaggio che specula sulla temporalità, sull’ipotesi e sulla possibilità senza dimenticarsi della sua componente ironica.

Xiaobin is 17 and she just arrived in Argentina by her parents. She is unable to speak a word in Spanish but, in a few days, she finds a job in a chinese supermarket. Trying to overcome her linguistic difficulties, Xiaobin decides to sign up at a language school. And after each lessons, the girl tries to test her new knowledge on the field. For this reason she decides to accept to date Vijay, almost like it was an inevitable didactic exercise. Although the two guys have a clear communicative difficulty cause their different cultures, they start a secret relationship. And the relationship goes on, as the Spanish lessons, and the better the girl get, the more she identifies with the script. El futuro perfecto is a unusual movie that, mixing documentary and fiction, succeed to reason not only over themes as emigration and cultural diversity but it carries forward a study on language that speculate over temporalities, hypothesis, and possibilities without forgetting about its ironic component.

BRÜDER DER NACHT / Brothers of the Night

All’interno del Rüdiger, locale gay notturno dove parecchi uomini viennesi vanno alla ricerca di giovani prostituti, un gruppo di ragazzi provenienti dall’Europa dell’Est organizzano il loro business seducendo gli anziani avventori per mantenere le proprie famiglie rimaste nel paese di origine. Il ritratto di una Vienna oscura e un po’ nascosta è raccontato tramite le testimonianze dei giovani che confessano con grande complicità le loro esperienze, le ragioni delle scelte di una vita dove non ci si interroga sul futuro. Con un evidente riferimento alla messa in scena di Querelle de Brest di Fassbinder, Brüder der Nacht (Brothers of the Night) allarga il campo di indagine a vari aspetti del fenomeno che ci racconta: le implicazioni sociali e economiche dell’immigrazione, la casualità delle scelte giovanili, il gioco di regia nell’ambiguità tra documentario e finzione. Un film seducente e provocatorio che ancora una volta ci racconta delle contraddizioni e degli epocali cambiamenti della società d’oggi.

Inside the Rüdiger, a gay night club where a lot of men from Vienna go in search of young male prostitutes, a group of guys from East Europe organize their business seducing the elderly costumers in order to maintain their families remained in their country of origin. The portrait of an obscure and partially hidden Vienna is told through the witness of the young men that confess with great complicity their experiences, the reasons of choices of life made without asking about the future. With a clear reference to the mise-en-scene of Querelle by Fassbinder, Brothers of the Night widens its field of investigation to various aspects of the phenomenon it tells us about: the social and economic implications of immigration, the casualty of the choices made in the youth, the direction game of the ambiguity between documentary and fiction. A seducing and provoking film that once again tells us of the contradictions and epochal changes of today’s society.

GARE DU NORD

Per Ismael, giovane ricercatore universitario alle prese con la sua tesi, la stazione ferroviaria Gare du Nord di Parigi è la rappresentazione del mondo: un luogo che esiste e non esiste allo stesso tempo. Affascinato dai personaggi che ogni giorno la abitano, Ismael farà la conoscenza di Mathilde, una docente universitaria malata di cancro, e lentamente, attratti l’uno dall’altra ed insieme dal luogo che li circonda, si innamoreranno. Insieme, in questa assurda realtà immersa nel cuore di Parigi ma allo stesso tempo così distante dalla città, incontreranno Joan, una madre sempre in viaggio tra Londra, Lille e Parigi, infelice, assorbita dal suo lavoro, e Sacha, un personaggio televisivo alla disperata ricerca della figlia scomparsa. Un microcosmo in continuo movimento che emula la vita stessa e, talvolta, anche la morte.

Ismael, a young university researcher dealing with his final thesis, thinks that Paris train station Gare du Nord is the representation of the world: a place that exist and doesn’t exit at the same time. Fascinated by the characters that spend their everyday life inside it, Ismael gets acquainted with Mathilde, a cancer sick university teacher, and slowly, attracted to each others and also to the place that surrounds them, they will fall in love. Together, in this absurd reality immersed in the heart of Paris but at the same time very distant from the city, they will meet Joan, a young mother always travelling from London to Lille and Paris, unhappy and absorbed by her job, and Sach, a TV celebrity desperately looking for his missing daughter. A microcosm in continuous movement that emulates life itself and, sometimes, even the death.

A Wig and a Prayer ci porta nella mente e nel mondo di Peaches Christ, alias Joshua Grannell, che ha trasformato il drag show in qualcosa di più di una performance: i suoi spettacoli settimanali Midnight Mass sono diventati per il pubblico un'esperienza totale in cui si combinano canzoni, balli e una gioiosa dissolutezza. Descrivendosi come un grande fan che ha creato questo personaggio per fare un omaggio alle persone che ammira, Joshua racconta come quello che è nato come un hobby, svolto negli spettacoli underground a San Francisco, sia diventato un'attività a tempo pieno che lo ha trasformato in un'icona internazionale.

A Wig and a Prayer takes us into the mind and world of Peaches Christ, a.k.a. Joshua Grannell, who has taken drag shows beyond just mere performance: her weekly Midnight Mass shows have become for the audience an immersive experience combining songs, dance, and joyful debauchery. Describing himself as a big fan that created this character to celebrate the people he admires, Joshua relates how what first began as a hobby in underground drag shows in San Francisco, had turned Peaches Christ into a full-blown career and international icon.

SECRET SANTA SEX PARTY

[ITA]Questo corto racconta la stravagante storia del New York Prime Timers, circolo locale dell’organizzazione nazionale degli uomini gay anziani. Tra le varie attività proposte per la terza età, i membri dell’associazione partecipano anche attivamente a sexy party mensili. Attraverso le interviste dei due registi, questi orgiastici ottuagenari ci invitano ai loro intimi raduni, illustrano esplicitamente le loro attività carnali e ci spiegano in maniera diretta e vivace chi sono e quali sono le loro storie comuni. Ma, soprattutto ci dicono cosa significa per le loro vite fare esperienza, il più a lungo possibile, di incontri sessuali gioiosi e consensuali.

This short film tells the idiosyncratic story of the New York Prime Timers, the local chapter of the national senior gay men’s organization. Amidst the flurry of elderly activities, the association members also actively participate in monthly sex parties. By the interviews of the two directors, these octogenarian orgiastic invite us to their intimate gathering, illustrate explicitly their carnal activities and explain to us, both frankly and inspiringly: who they are; their own shared histories. And, above all what it means to their lives to experience joyful, consensual sexual meetings for as long as may be possible.

Dividere la propria vita con la persona che si ama, e con la quale si hanno gli stessi interessi, è il sogno di tutti. A volte però, questo potrebbe trasformarsi in un incubo. È quello che succede una mattina a Kate e Leigh al loro risveglio. 1992. Martin ha 17 anni e filma la sua vita quotidiana con la sua videocamera Hi8. Filma qualsiasi cosa: la sua stanza, il suo mondo e tutti quelli attorno a lui. Tutti tranne il padre, con cui il ragazzo ha un rapporto scostante, quasi inesistente. L’incontro con Dominique, collaboratore scolastico nella sua scuola, segnerà un punto di svolta nel suo modo di rapportarsi con chi lo circonda. Le immagini del film si alternano a quelle girate dal regista quando era ancora un adolescente, rivelando così una corrispondenza autobiografica tra lui e Martin. 1992 diventa così l’occasione per un viaggio a ritroso nel passato, alla riscoperta degli affetti.

1992. Martin is seventeen and films his daily life with his Hi8 camera. He films everything and anything, his room, the world around him. Never his father, with whom the boy has a bad relationship, almost nonexistent. The meeting with Dominique, a teaching assistant in his school, will mark a crucial moment for reshaping his relationship with the others. The film is interplayed with footage the director shot when he was a teenager, suggesting an autobiographical link between him and Martin. Thus, 1992 becomes the occasion for a backward journey in the past, rediscovering affections.

IM EFGOSH KOSEM

Nella giornata nazionale della memoria per i soldati morti in guerra e le vittime del terrorismo, Omri ottiene un congedo dall’esercito per assistere alla commemorazione dello zio. Commemorazione alla quale forse non andrà mai, dal momento che inizia a vagare senza una meta precisa per le strade di Tel Aviv. Diviso tra il suo ruolo all’interno della società e la necessità di esprimere liberamente la propria identità sessuale in uno stato fortemente militarizzato, il suo girovagare si conclude di fronte ad un concerto di cui è l’unico spettatore. Lì, la sirena, suonata in segno di lutto in tutto il paese, sembra richiamarlo alla realtà.

On the National Memorial Day for the fallen soldiers during the war and victims of terrorism, Omri gets released from the army to attend his uncle’s memorial service. Memorial service which perhaps he never will be, since he starts wandering aimlessly through the streets of Tel Aviv. Torn between his role in the society and the need to freely express his sexual identity in a state heavily militarized, he will take a rest from his wanderings at a concert, where he is the only spectator. There, the siren rung as a sign of mourning all over the country seems to bring him back to reality.
