Nell’isolata base militare di Fort Buchanan Roger attende in compagnia della figlia adottiva e di un assortito gruppo di donne e uomini il ritorno del proprio marito Frank, militare in missione in Africa. La comunità di mogli, anch’esse in attesa dei propri mariti inviati al fronte, passa oziosamente il tempo tra discussioni filosofiche al limite del grottesco e giochi di seduzione. Frank vive con gelosia il silenzio del marito e decide di partire con il gruppo alla volta del fronte africano. Girato in 16 mm e diviso in quattro parti, è un film che racconta con un tono ironico, sottile e mai scontato le dinamiche di desiderio all’interno di una situazione quasi surreale. Il regista riprende elementi della cultura statunitense e francese per fonderli in uno sguardo dissacrante che sa evidenziare in maniera straniante gli stereotipi legati al genere e alla famiglia.

In the isolated military base of Fort Buchanan Roger is waiting, together with his adoptive family and an assorted group of women and men, the return of his husband Frank, a soldier on a mission in Africa. The community of wives, while waiting like him for their husbands sent to the front, lazily spends its time making almost grotesque philosophical discussions and seduction games. Frank lives with jealousy the silence of his husband and decides to leave with the group for the African front. Shot in 16mm and divided in four parts, Fort Buchanan is a film that, with an ironic subtle and never predictable tone, tells the dynamics of desire within an almost surreal situation. The director evokes elements of the American and French culture to merge them in a desecrating gaze that underlines in an alienating way the stereotypes linked to gender and family.
