Dorothea ha fallito nel suo sogno d’amore romantico con Heinz ad Amburgo, e sulla scorta dei racconti di sua madre sull’amore libero negli Stati Uniti viaggia fino a San Francisco, dove si ritrova coinvolta in un turbinio di nuove esperienze.
Monika Treut ci trasporta con Dorothea dentro un sogno punk femminista, la storia di un coming out lesbico, in cui il desiderio travalica i generi e una donna può scoprirsi soddisfatta nei modi più imprevisti. Il film è libero fin dall’inizio, con un bianco e nero così intenso e dei primi piani degni del cinema muto; ma è solo quando Dorothea si libera lei stessa che il film rilascia le sue scosse elettriche quasi cyberpunk, tra la ripresa in stile guerriglia e la pulsione orgiastica, senza mai sconfinare in una retorica New Age ma catturando lo spirito dei tempi, disilluso quando necessario, esplosivo quando lo desidera.

Dorothea has failed in her dream of romantic love with Heinz in Hamburg, and remembering her mother’s stories of free love in the USA she travels to San Francisco where she finds herself involved in a whirlwind of new experiences.
Monika Treut transports us with Dorothea into a feminist punk dream, the story of a lesbian coming out, in which desire transcends genders and a woman can find herself satisfied in the most unexpected ways. The film is free from the beginning, with such an intense black and white and close-ups that are worthy of silent cinema; but it is only when Dorothea frees herself that the film releases its almost cyberpunk electric shocks, between guerrilla filmmaking and the orgiastic impulse, without ever straying into New Age rhetoric but capturing the spirit of the times, disillusioned when necessary, explosive when it wants it.
