Il regista Armel Hostiou viaggia a Kinshasa, nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo, perché qualcuno da lì è penetrato nel suo account Facebook, e si è finto lui annunciando dei provini fasulli. Il film racconta questo viaggio: un regista alla ricerca della propria falsa identità, nascosta - e identificata - attraverso un avatar di Facebook. O non è così? Le vrai du faux forse invece mostra la ragnatela di relazioni inserita in un sistema di potere che decreta cosa sia il bianco e il nero. O è falso? Le vrai du faux si muove in uno spazio di confine tra reale e virtuale, usurpatore e usurpato, me e l’altro. Falso, ma è tutto vero.
In una matrioska di prospettive senza fine, Hostiou esplora i significati di verità e di menzogna, impresa che si trasforma nella miccia per giocare con posizioni identitarie all’apparenza oppositive, e dissacrare il concetto stesso d’identità.

Director Armel Hostiou travels to Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, because someone from there hacked into his Facebook account and posed as him by announcing fake auditions. The film documents this journey: a director in search of his false identity, hidden - and identified - through a Facebook avatar. Or is it not so? Le vrai du faux perhaps shows the web of relationships embedded in a system of power that decrees what is black and white. Or is it fake? Le vrai du faux moves in a boundary space between real and virtual, usurper and usurped, me and the other. False, but it's all true.
In an endless matryoshka of perspectives, Hostiou explores the meanings of truth and lies, an enterprise that becomes the fuse for playing with -apparently- oppositional identity positions and desecrating the very concept of identity.
