Berlino Ovest 1979. Jürgen Baldiga, figlio di un minatore di Essen, si è appena trasferito in città con l’obiettivo di diventare un artista. Lavora come cuoco, scrive poesie, tiene un diario e si avvicina alla fotografia nel 1984. Affetto da HIV, utilizza le foto per fermare il tempo e catturare la realtà. I suoi ritratti mostrano amici, amanti, sesso selvaggio, la vita di strada e le ragazze del club gay SchwuZ che diventano la sua famiglia adottiva.
Tra disperazione e desiderio, ribellione e irrefrenabile volontà di sopravvivere, Baldiga diventa un cronista della sottocultura di Berlino Ovest, nonostante la malattia lo condanni a una morte quasi certa. Quando muore nel 1993 all'età di trentaquattro anni lascia migliaia di fotografie e quaranta diari. L’eredità artistica unica di un artista radicale e complesso e di un attivista impegnato contro la stigmatizzazione degli stili di vita gay.

West Berlin 1979. Jürgen Baldiga, the son of a miner from Essen, has just moved to the city with the aim of becoming an artist. He works as a chef, writes poetry, keeps a diary and approaches photography in 1984. Affected by HIV, he uses photos to freeze time and capture reality. His photos portray friends, lovers, wild sex, street life and the lush girls of the gay club SchwuZ who become his adoptive family.
Between desperation and desire, rebellion and absolute will to survive, Baldiga becomes a chronicler of the West Berlin subculture despite his disease condemning him to certain death. When he died in 1993 at the age of thirty-four, he left behind thousands of photographs and forty diaries. The unique artistic legacy of a radical and complex artist and an activist committed against the stigmatization of gay lifestyles.
