Il grande regista tedesco Douglas Sirk si racconta di fronte alla macchina da presa, in compagnia della moglie Hilde Jary: il rigetto per il nazismo, i film per la tedesca UFA, la fuga negli Stati Uniti, il lavoro negli studios di Hollywood, l’ossessione per la composizione dell’inquadratura e per gli specchi. Intanto il sole di Lugano filtra dalle finestre della sua casa in Svizzera, e illumina sia lui che la moglie dandogli occasione, nonostante i problemi di vista, di trovare anche durante l’intervista momenti di luce perfetti ai suoi occhi di regista.
Lo svizzero Daniel Schmid dialoga con quello che lui e Rainer Werner Fassbinder ritenevano e veneravano come maestro assoluto del melodramma, il regista di There’s Always Tomorrow, Written on the Wind e Imitation of Life. The great German director Douglas Sirk talks about himself in front of the camera, alongside with his wife Hilde Jary: his rejection of Nazism, his films for the German UFA, his escape to the United States, his work in the Hollywood studios, his obsession with the composition of the shot and for the mirrors. Meanwhile, the Lugano sun filters through the windows of his house in Switzerland, and illuminates both him and his wife, giving him the opportunity, despite his sight problems, to find perfect moments of light in his director’s eyes even during the interview.
