Quando nel 1974 i portoghesi lasciano l’Angola per soccombere alle violente rivendicazioni indipendentiste, un gruppo di giovani soldati barricati dentro le mura di un insediamento militare cominciano ad essere braccati da presenze misteriose.

Un’indagine sui fantasmi del colonialismo e un film di genere sulla crescita e il superamento dei traumi personali e collettivi, sullo sfondo di un paese dalla forza primigenia incontrollabile. Carlos Conceição torna sulla Storia colonialista portoghese, osservando i turbamenti dell’adolescenza e la scoperta dei rapporti e della sessualità, attraverso gli occhi sconcertati del giovane João Arrais, già suo attore feticcio e sorta di alter ego. E la cecità ingenua dell’adolescenza diventa per estensione un disagio condiviso sull’inconoscibilità della Storia e sul mistero atavico delle proprie radici più profonde.

When in 1974 Portugal leaves Angola to submit to the violent independentist claims, a group of young soldiers barricaded within the walls of a military settlement starts to be besieged by mysterious presences.

A survey about the ghosts of colonialism and a genre film about growth and overcoming of personal and collective traumas, with the primeval uncontrollable force of a country in the background. Carlos Conceição comes back to colonialist Portuguese history as he observed anxieties and ambiances of a teenage searching for relations and sexuality, through the confounded eyes of the young João Arrais, already his muse and sort of alter ego. And the naïf blindness of teenage unavoidably becomes a shared discomfort about unknowability of History and about atavistic mystery of one’s own deepest roots.
