“La geografia di un’isola è una metafora di ciò che si vive al suo interno: identità circondate da infinite possibilità che solo i fortunati osano raggiungere”: il tempo sospeso di Ana e Luis sembra intrecciarsi a questa voce fuori campo, guida del traghetto verso l’isola che abitano, San Miguel, nelle Azzorre. Fluttuando sui confini tra terra e mare, le loro storie risiedono in un punto di rottura tra liturgia e rivoluzione in cui svaniscono l’etica, come per Ana che non riesce più a distinguere il bene e il male, e le strutture espressive di genere, come per l’estetica di Luis.

Cláudia Varejão tratteggia un’opera tra finzione e documentario, ritratti frammentati di amara speranza e meraviglia di due vite – e una generazione – isolate e, al contempo, proiettate verso l’unione con l’altro.

"The geography of an island is a metaphor for what one lives within it: identities surrounded by infinite possibilities that only the lucky dare to reach": the suspended time of Ana and Luis seems intertwined to this voiceover, ferry guide to the island they inhabit, San Miguel, in the Azores. Floating on the borders between land and sea, their stories reside at a breaking point between liturgy and revolution in which ethics vanish, as for Ana who can no longer distinguish between good and evil, and gendered expressive structures, as for Luis' aesthetics.

Cláudia Varejão sketches a work between fiction and documentary, fragmented portraits of bitter hope and wonder of two lives – and a generation – isolated and, at the same time, projected towards the union with the other.
