Sono questi gli elementi ricorrenti nella filmografia di Céline Sciamma, regista francese da sempre impegnata nella ricerca dello sguardo femminile nel e per il cinema, che non significa un semplice rovesciamento di potere rispetto al male gaze ma una diversa modalità di porsi e vedere i sentimenti e le emozioni di chi è oggetto dello sguardo, annullando per quanto possibile una visione reificante dei soggetti.
Il volume presenta una serie di contributi critici sui film della regista, firmati ognuno da una diversa studiosa e propone al lettore svariati punti di vista su ogni film, ma riesce anche a offrire una lettura di tutta la produzione di Céline Sciamma con prospettive di volta in volta diversificate.
Molti i ribaltamenti e le manomissioni che Sciamma introduce nelle narrazioni per far saltare i codici prestabiliti e liberare una diversa possibilità narrativa sullo schermo. I suoi film – la trilogia sull’adolescenza, Ritratto della giovane in fiamme e il recente Petite maman – e le sue sceneggiature – sia per la televisione, sia per il cinema – mettono in scena linee di forza multiformi e contrastanti attraverso cui la norma si scontra con una pluralità di modalità resistenti e la volontà politica di rovesciare le strutture portanti di questa società.

Come afferma la stessa regista nell’intervista rilasciata alle autrici della monografia, “non basta una protagonista donna per fare una rivoluzione, importante è piuttosto la condivisione, con chi vede il film, del punto di vista. E per ottenerla occorre produrre belle immagini, opere di valore, che sappiano coniugare arte e profitto, detto senza troppo scandalo perché anche il cinema è un’industria”.

Identity, desire and transformation are the recurring elements in the filmography of Céline Sciamma, a French director who has always been involved in the search for the female gaze in and for cinema, which does not mean a simple reversal of the male gaze but a different perspective in portraying feelings and emotions of those who are the object of the gaze and the refuse of reification.
The volume offers a series of critical contributions on the director's films, each signed by a different authors and offers the reader distinct points of view on each film and diversified perspectives of the entire production of Céline Sciamma.
Sciamma introduces in the narratives breaking point of views to blow up the pre-established codes and enable a different narrative perspective. Her films - the trilogy on adolescence, Portrait of the Young Lady on Fire and the recent Petite maman - and her screenplays - for both television and cinema – show how the established norms collapse if collide with a plurality of resistant forces and with the political will to overthrow the supporting structures of our society.

As the filmmaker says in the interview included in the book, "a female protagonist is not enough to make a revolution, it is more important to share the point of view with those who see the film. And to obtain it, it is necessary to produce beautiful images and valuable works, which combine art and profit because cinema is also an industry".
