Alla fine del Settecento, non molti anni prima dello scoppio della Rivoluzione, Marianne viene convocata dalla madre di Héloïse per realizzare il ritratto della figlia, appena uscita dal convento e in procinto di sposarsi con un uomo mai visto prima. La pittrice non potrà contare sulla collaborazione della ragazza, e dovrà anzi nascondere il motivo della sua visita: comincerà allora un percorso di conoscenza che porterà le due ad avvicinarsi sempre di più, fino alla nascita di una passione travolgente e misurata nello stesso tempo.

Lavorando su una rievocazione in costume che guarda ai grandi modelli del cinema, da Stanley Kubrick fino a Todd Haynes passando per Rohmer, un film tutto al femminile che nella luce, nella parola, nei silenzi e nella musica trova lo spazio per raccontare la storia di un amore proibito, nascosto e impetuoso come la vita della giovane protagonista. Una fiamma che si libererà fino a far ardere il cuore di chi la circonda e degli spettatori. Vincitore del premio come miglior sceneggiatura e della Queer Palm alla 72esima edizione del festival di Cannes.

At the end of the 18th century, not many years before the outbreak of the Revolution, Marianne is summoned by Héloïse's mother who wants her to make the portrait of her daughter that has just come out of a convent and is about to marry a man she has never seen before. The painter will not be able to count on the collaboration of the girl, and will indeed have to hide the reason behind her visit: they will then begin a journey of awareness which will lead them to get closer and closer, until the birth of an overwhelming, but measured at the same time, passion.

Working on a costume reenactment that looks back at the great models of cinema, from Stanley Kubrick to Todd Haynes through Rohmer, an all-female film that finds in light, word, silence and music the space to tell the story of a forbidden love, hidden and impetuous as the life of the young main character. It’s a flame that will burn until the hearts of those around her and the spectators’ ones will be set on fire. Winner of the Best Screenplay Award and Queer Palm Award at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
