Il film racconta la storia di tre donne in tre città differenti. Donne che si sono arrese alla vita. Una vive a Damasco. Ha smesso di parlare con gli altri, isolandosi nel suo appartamento. La seconda ha lasciato Damasco a causa della guerra trasferendosi in Svezia, dove si rifugia nei suoi dipinti, sperando tramite tramite essi di liberarsi del tormento del passato. La terza è finita a Vienna e affronta un futuro incerto, come il fantasma di una donna fuggita da Vienna dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. È una discussione tra l’interiore e l’esteriore – una conversazione impossibile.

Lo sguardo attento e sincero della regista ci restituisce così dei ritratti intimi e accorati di anime altrimenti invisibili, sconfitte da una guerra che non gli è mai appartenuta.

The film narrates the story of three women in three different cities. They have given up on life. One lives in Damascus. She has stopped speaking to others entirely, isolating herself in her flat. The other has left Damascus as a result of the war and went to Sweden, where she imprisons herself in her paintings, hoping through them to rid herself of the torments of the past. The third ended up in Vienna and faces an unknown future, like the ghost of a woman who fled Austria after the Second World War. It is a conversation between the interior and exterior – an impossible conversation.

The director’s attentive and authentic gaze hence pay us back the otherwise invisible souls’ intimate and heartfelt portraits, defeated by a war that never belong them.
