Robi Rapp e Ernst Ostertag si incontrano tramite la rivista omosessuale Der Kreis e il suo club gay a Zurigo dagli anni ’40. Sebbene all’epoca l’omosessualità fosse legale in Svizzera, non era ancora del tutto tollerata e, nel diventare il primo luogo di ritrovo omosessuale, Der Kreis diventa anche il baluardo dei diritti e della cultura gay. Quando Ernst, insegnante, si innamora perdutamente di Robi, parrucchiere di giorno e travestito di notte, un’ondata di crimini omofobici si abbatte su Zurigo. Un clima di paura si instaura nella comunità e dà vita a profondi cambiamenti all’interno dell’associazione. Robi ed Ernst non si lasceranno più e arriveranno fino all’ufficializzazione della loro unione negli anni ’90, quando diventeranno la prima coppia omosessuale svizzera legalmente sposata. Il film ha vinto il Teddy Award come miglior documentario al Festival di Berlino 2014.

Robi Rapp and Ernst Ostertag met through the homosexual magazine Der Kreis and its gay club located in Zurich since the 40s. Though at the time homosexuality was legal in Switzerland, it wasn’t totally tolerated yet, and becoming the first gay meeting place, Der Kreis became the symbol of the defence of homosexual rights and culture. When Ernst, a teacher, fell madly in love with Robi, a hairdresser by day and transvestite by night, a wave of homophobic crimes hit Zurich. A climate of fear built up in the community and gave birth to profound changes within the association. Robi and Ernst will never split up and they will obtain the formalization of their union in the 90s, when they became the first legally married Swiss homosexual couple. The film won the Teddy Award for best documentary at Berlin Festival in 2014.
