Honeymoon

Dopo un traumatico incontro con la polizia, Fay decide di lasciare la Grecia per sempre. L'amica Sandra l'accompagna nel suo viaggio, per avere più tempo e avere l’occasione per dirle addio. Mentre viaggiano in autobus attraverso il Paese, una violenta discussione con due passeggeri transfobici le costringe a scendere nel bel mezzo del nulla. Sandra approfitta di questo momento per aprirsi con Fay.
Un road movie potente, dall’elegante fotografia, che denuncia in modo chiaro la transfobia e l’omofobia radicate nella società greca, fin dentro le stesse istituzioni, che si mostrano oggi più che mai nel loro volto ignorante, violento e fascista. L’occhio della regia, Alkis Papastathopoulos, è talmente immerso negli eventi e negli sguardi che si scambiano le due protagoniste, che diventa difficile distinguere il film dai loro stessi volti, tanto che l’indignazione diventa un’espressione, la discriminazione diventa un grido, l’affetto nonostante tutto diventa un gesto della mano.

After a traumatizing event involving the cops, Fay is leaving Greece for good. Sandra accompanies her to the bus station, taking this time to say goodbye. As they are travelling by bus across the country, a transphobic attack by two co-passengers leaves them stranded on a highway in the middle of nowhere. Sandra has now the chance to open her soul to Fay.
A powerful road movie, with an elegant cinemaphotography, which clearly denounces transphobia and homophobia rooted in society, even within the institutions themselves, which today are increasingly showing their most ignorant, violent and fascist face. The eye of Alkis Papastathopoulos is so immersed in the events and in the looks of the protagonists that it is more and more difficult to distinguish the movie from their own faces; therefore the resentment becomes an expression, the discrimination becomes an howl, the love – despite everything – becomes an hand gesture.

L’heure de Ninon

Andrea ed Élise si sono appena lasciate, e non riuscendo a superare la fine della relazione Andrea si rifugia nella casa estiva di famiglia chiedendo alla sorella Ninon di raggiungerla. È Élise però ad arrivare per prima e a suonare al campanello di Andrea, determinata a ricostruire il loro rapporto.
In questo film Olivier Cheval racconta l'amore e la complicità che – nonostante alcuni non detti – unisce tra di loro queste tre donne. Con notevole delicatezza e grande profondità di sguardo, viene indagato e mostrato un microcosmo femminile che dalle mura di una casa estiva si dispiega tra i sentieri della foresta e si inoltra in una natura accogliente che abbraccia e protegge le protagoniste. La dimensione rohmeriana del gioco è una brezza fresca che attraversa la narrazione e che rende L’heure de Ninon un percorso di guarigione e di nuove consapevolezze, affrontato grazie all'amore altrui e alla profonda connessione con sé stesse.

Andrea has just broken up with Élise and, unable to get over the end of her relationship, she takes refuge in the family summer house asking her sister Ninon to join her. However, it is Élise who arrives first and rings Andrea's doorbell, determined to rebuild their relationship.
In this film Olivier Cheval talks about the love and complicity - despite some things left unsaid - that bond these three women. With remarkable delicacy and great depth of gaze, he investigates and shows a female microcosm which unfolds from the walls of a summer house along the paths of the forest and then forwards into a welcoming nature that embraces and protects the main characters. The rohmerian dimension of the game is a fresh breeze that passes through the narrative and makes L’heure de Ninon a journey of healing and gaining new awareness, thanks to the love of others and the deep connection with oneself.

Andy e Charlie si esibiscono insieme performando e creando spettacoli erotici. In estate, lontane dal cabaret, le due giovani donne si confrontano e inventano, ripercorrendo e ridefinendo i propri itinerari.

Il nero torbido del carboncino, il bianco sporco della carta, e i segni di una lotta artistica e sentimentale consumata sul crinale tra composizione e decomposizione.
Y è un film d’animazione il cui titolo rimanda all’incognita, al dubbio che ogni relazione schiude rispetto alla propria durabilità, simboleggiando anche un’iniziale unità che nel corso del tempo si usura fino a biforcarsi e a scindere l’originale simbiosi in irreparabile distanza. Un bivio, dunque, che pone la protagonista e gli spettatori di fronte a due opposti: l’intimità e l’allontanamento, l’inizio di un amore e la sua fine. Y è un viaggio rizomatico di osservazione prossima del desiderio e del corpo femminile, tratteggiato in ogni angolo e curva e colto quasi sempre sotto il tocco desiderante di due amanti destinate a non ritrovarsi mai più.

The turbid black of the charcoal, the dirty white of the paper, and the signs of an artistic and sentimental struggle played on the ridge between composition and decomposition.
Y is an animated film whose title refers to the unknown, to the doubt that every relationship opens up regarding its own durability, but that also symbolizes an initial unity that wears out over time until it branches out and splits the original symbiosis in an irreparable distance. A crossroads, therefore, that let the protagonist and the spectators face two opposites: intimacy and estrangement, the beginning of a love story and its end. Y is a rhizomatic journey of close observation of desire and female body, outlined in every corner and curve and almost always caught under the desiring touch of two lovers destined to never meet again.

Wild Fruits

XVI secolo. Dopo un periodo trascorso all'estero nella Francia antartica, Jean Aurand trova rifugio come servitore nella casa del filosofo francese Michel de Montaigne, dove una serie di eventi fantastici cambia per sempre la vita dei due uomini.
In questa fantasia queer che evoca ricordi del primo Bertrand Mandico, di Perceval le Gallois di Eric Rohmer e di West Indies di Med Hondo, il regista brasiliano Bernardo Zanotta contrappone la brutalità dei colonizzatori alla sensualità del rapporto di Jean Aurand con gli indigeni. Possiamo solo sognare quale corso avrebbe preso la storia se l'approccio pacifista e non binario del servitore avesse prevalso sulla violenza coloniale.

16th century. After a period overseas in the Antarctic France, Jean Aurand finds refuge as a servant in the house of French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, where a series of fantastical events change the lives of these two men forever.
In this queer fantasy that conjures up memories of early Bertrand Mandico, Eric Rohmer's Perceval le Gallois and Med Hondo's West Indies, Brazilian filmmaker Bernardo Zanotta contrasts the brutality of the colonists with the sensuality of Jean Aurand's relationship with the natives. We can only dream of the course history would have taken if the servant's pacifist, non-binary approach had prevailed over colonial violence.

Slimane

Germania, in un futuro molto vicino. Un uomo viene rilasciato dalla prigione e decide di far subito visita alla sua migliore amica, Ava, sorpresa di vederlo. Ciò che grava sul film è l'incombere di una minaccia che agisce insidiosamente per cancellare dalla città l’esistenza dei corpi queer.
Questo anelito di cancellazione perseguito da uno Stato violento e omofobo viene elaborato dallo sguardo di Carlos Pereira in un’estetica della delicatezza, che lascia a dei quadri compositivamente scarni il compito di veicolare l’atrocità dell’assenza. Così, ricorrendo all’utilizzo della camera fissa e inquadrando un muro su cui posa una carta da parati fuori fuoco, il regista permette allo spettatore di sentir crescere, dentro di sé, un malessere sempre più intollerabile causato dall’assenza sullo schermo di quegli stessi corpi che, dentro e fuori dalla narrazione, rischiano di scomparire per sempre. Ma anche quando la realtà diventa troppo ostile l’unica risposta risiede sempre nella resistenza: queer allora diventa un luogo politico dove reinventare sé stessi e le regole di una società che nega ogni diritto di esistenza della differenza.

Germany, in a near future. A man is released from prison and as a first stop he visits Ava, his best friend, who didn’t expect to see him. What weighs on the film is the coming of a threat that acts insidiously to erase the existence of queer bodies from the city. This desire for cancellation pursued by a violent and homophobic State is elaborated by the gaze of Carlos Pereira in an aesthetic of delicacy, which leaves to compositionally sparse shots the task of conveying the atrocity of absence. Thus, by resorting to the use of the fixed camera and by framing an out-of-focus wallpapered wall, the director allows the viewer to feel growing an increasingly intolerable discomfort caused by the absence on the screen of those same bodies that, inside and outside the narrative, risk disappearing forever. But even when reality becomes too hostile, the only answer always lies in resistance: queer then becomes a political place to reinvent oneself and the rules of a society that denies any right of existence of the difference.

On The Other Side Of

Un’esplorazione del corpo transgender e non-binary colto e rappresentato attraverso il mordançage, un processo fotografico del XIX secolo che ricorre all’utilizzo di sostanze chimiche aggressive in grado di alterare la patina delle foto, sottoponendole a un processo di lenta e graduale trasformazione.
In questo film di Mia Felić, il supporto fotografico e il corpo umano diventano un unico, inscindibile medium. Lo sfaldarsi epidermico della loro superficie svela, infatti, la nascita di nuove forme di vita e nuovi modi d’essere. Il corpo in transizione assume qui la protoplasmaticità tipica degli organismi unicellulari: stampato sulla carta fotografica, il corpo/medium galleggia – proprio come le amebe – in un liquido mortifero e contemporaneamente vitale, sperimentando una onnipotenzialità che gli consente di compiere mutamenti metamorfici improvvisi e di passare da una condizione a un’altra, da un genere a un altro, evolvendosi, stadio dopo stadio, sino a fissarsi nella forma ritenuta più adatta.

An exploration of the transgender and non-binary body caught and represented through the mordançage, a photographic process of the Nineteenth century that consists in aggressive chemicals capable of altering the silver gelatine prints, causing them to undergo a process of slow and gradual transformation.
In this film by Mia Felić, the photographic support and the human body become a unique, inseparable medium. The epidermal disintegration of their surface reveals, indeed, the birth of new forms of life and new ways of being. The body in transition assumes here the protoplasticity typical of unicellular organisms: printed on photographic paper, the body/medium floats - just like the amoebas - in both a deadly and vital liquid, experimenting with a transformability that allows it to make sudden metamorphic changes and to move from one condition to another, from one gender to another, evolving, stage after stage, until fixing in the form deemed most suitable.

Loveboard

Una relazione ormai finita, un telefono rotto, e i ricordi del protagonista che si fanno memoria personale e archivio digitale. Entrambi frammentati, entrambi ricomposti per rivelare squarci di un amore svanito.
Loveboard non è solo la ricostruzione di momenti privati che, trasposti sullo schermo, diventano immagini universali, ma è soprattutto una mise en abîme del processo creativo del regista. L’osservazione ricorrente al microscopio della memoria interna di un telefono smembrato in ogni sua parte non è altro che la medesima azione che il regista compie con i ricordi della sua relazione. Provare a riparare un telefono rotto significa allora tentare di salvare dall’oblio pezzi di vita reali e digitalizzati, cose immaginate e momenti diventati immagini compromesse, video glitchati, scorci d’amore intravisti tra un pixel e l’altro, che divorano l’immagine fino ad annichilire ciò che di vero è stato vissuto.

A broken relationship, a broken phone and the protagonist’s memories that become both personal memory and digital archive. Both fragmented, both reassembled to reveal glimpses of a vanished love.
Loveboard is not only the reconstruction of private moments that, transposed on the screen, become universal images, but above all it is a mise en abîme of the director’s creative process. The recurrent observation under the microscope of the internal memory of a telephone dismembered in all its parts is nothing more than the same action performed by the director with the memories of his relationship. Trying to fix a broken phone then means trying to save from oblivion real and digitized pieces of life, imagined things and moments become compromised images, glitchy videos, glimpses of love seen between pixels, that devour the image to the point of annihilating what was truly lived.

Grandmamauntsistercat

La storia di una famiglia matriarcale vista attraverso gli occhi (e la voce) di una bambina. Immagini di repertorio, originariamente create come strumenti didattici e propagandistici nella Polonia comunista, vengono riproposte come luogo di memorie auto-fiction, maneggiate e distorte, portate su lidi cosmici e sperimentali.
Creato a partire dai materiali d'archivio dell'Educational Film Studio di Łódź, è una riflessione stratificata sulla parentela, sulle relazioni interspecie e sull'identità: le donne della famiglia si impegnano in un processo di creazione di sé e del mondo, trasformando i presupposti sessisti e antropocentrici di un intero immaginario in strumenti di resistenza. Così, in questa danza di immagini e suoni trasfigurati, la Baba Jaga, figura ancestrale della tradizione fiabesca slava, la terribile donna ai margini del bosco, si libera dei vincoli patriarcali e prende le forme di una potente dea preistorica, compagna di piante ed animali.

The story of a matriarchal family through the eyes (and the voice) of a child. Archive images, originally created as didactic and propagandist tools in communist Poland, are turned into a locus of auto-fictional memories, through manipulation and distortion, until they reach cosmic and experimental horizons.
Created from archive images from the Educational Film Studio in Łódź, it is a layered reflection on kinship, interspecies relationships and identity: the women in the family engage in a process of self-making and world-making, overturning the often sexist and anthropocentric basis of an entire imaginary into tools of resistance. At the center of this dance made of transfigured images and sounds, the classic Slavic witch figure, Baba Jaga, the mysterious woman at the edge of the woods, finally free from patriarchal constraints, is reimagined as a 'prehistoric goddess from the times of the matriarchy', companion and allied with plants and animals.

Boléro

Un ballerino di nome Fran fa ritorno al suo paese natale per concedersi un po’ di riposo e far visita alla madre. Il suo arrivo, però, si trasforma presto in qualcosa di speciale per la sua comunità. Attraverso il ritmo del bolero, Fran guiderà gli abitanti del paese e gli spettatori verso il raggiungimento di nuove vette del piacere.
In un caotico climax ascendente, che dal voyeurismo si trasforma in una sacra contemplazione collettiva, Fran diventa – attraverso lo sguardo del popolo – una profana figura cristologica venuta a rivelare una nuova forma di conoscenza che passa dall'uso del corpo e della vista e che conduce, in ultimo, a una celebrazione processionale dell’appagamento dei sensi, spirituali ma soprattutto fisici.

A dancer named Fran returns to his hometown to rest and visit his mother. But his arrival soon turns into something special for his community. Through the rhythm of Bolero, Fran will guide the villagers and the spectators towards new heights of pleasure.
In a chaotic ascending climax, that from voyeurism turns into a sacred collective contemplation, Fran becomes - through the gaze of the people - into a profane Christological figure who has come to reveal a new form of knowledge that comes through the use of the body and the sight, and that ultimately leads to a processional celebration of the satisfaction on the senses, spiritual but, above all, physical.
