L’anticonformista Paul Morrisey, autore della sceneggiatura insieme a Tonino Guerra e Pat Hackett, sfrutta al massimo gli elementi “body horror” del romanzo di Mary Shelley e si cimenta in una rivisitazione cruenta del mito di Frankenstein, venata di erotismo. Ambientazioni e composizione delle immagini si iscrivono nei canoni del cinema di horror ma il risultato è delirante e oltraggioso, con un finale ci immerge in un universo pessimista alla Mario Bava.

Maverick filmmaker Paul Morrisey wrote the script along with Tonino Guerra and Pat Hackett, diving deeply into the body horror elements of Mary Shelley’s novel, but otherwise telling his own peculiar gore version of Frankenstein myth, tinged with eroticism. Settings and image composition are part of the canons of horror movies, but the output is delirious and outrageous, and the end of the film plunges us into a pessimistic universe in the style of Mario Bava.
