Fra Stati Uniti, Canada e Regno Unito, Barbara Hammer documenta le reazioni del suo pubblico prima e dopo la presentazione di alcuni suoi corti: shock, interrogativi sulla pornografia, percezione della fisicità e soprattutto rappresentazione di un’altra narrazione sullo schermo, una narrazione che voglia la donna capace di provare eccitazione per delle immagini. Il cinema di guerriglia di Audience permette allo spettatore di connettersi con sensazioni e contesti diversi dai suoi, in questo caso percependo palpabilmente l’entusiasmo e le emozioni di spettatori, ma soprattutto spettatrici, affascinate dalle potenzialità del cinema d’avanguardia e del cinema queer, alla ricerca di un “linguaggio lesbico” e della sua traduzione per immagini.

From United States and Canada to United Kingdom, Barbara Hammer documents the reactions of her audience before and after the screenings of some of her short films: shock, questions about pornography, perception of physicality and above all the representation of another narrative on the screen, a narration that considers the woman capable of being turned on by images. The guerrilla cinema of Audience allows the viewers to connect with sensations and contexts that are different from their own, in this case palpably perceiving enthusiasm and emotions of spectators (mainly female spectators) fascinated by the potential of avant-garde cinema and queer cinema, in search of a “lesbian language” and its translation through images.
