She tried to circumvent the stereotypical roles often assigned to her, and eventually disappeared with a certain hint of mystery at the turn of the 60s. Debra Paget, For Example is the portrait of a promising actress, a starlet who never became a diva, a sacred as well as profane body, the master at the “sorrowful Madonna looks” and the sumptuous “Princess of Kitsch”: an important piece of the work by Rappaport who continues to subvert the cinematic canon while questioning its authority, as well as rethinking the history of film as an art of digression and brilliant re-discovery of what has been neglected, underestimated or relegated to irrelevance.
