Il film fa parte di un progetto commissionato nel 2021 dal Punto de Vista Film Festival, per il quale i curatori Garbiñe Ortega e Matías Piñeiro hanno chiesto ad alcuni autori di filmare una lettera indirizzata a un regista da loro ammirato. Per Las Cartas Que no Fueron También Son Gibson ha dedicato la sua lettera d'amore a tre registe – Barbara Loden, Nina Menkes e Bette Gordon –, donne le cui voci e i cui personaggi l'hanno profondamente influenzata negli ultimi anni.

 A woman is scrolling through her cell phone in a park, surrounded by playing children. The film was commissioned in 2021 as part of a project by Punto de Vista Film Festival in which several filmmakers were asked by curators Garbiñe Ortega and Matías Piñeiro to film a letter to a filmmaker they admired. For ( Gibson wrote a love letter to three filmmakers – Barbara Loden, Nina Menkes & Bette Gordon –, women whose voices and characters have influenced her deeply in the last few years.
