1996: il protagonista del cortometraggio (possibilmente Hoolboom stesso) è un trentacinquenne sieropositivo da ormai 8 anni che riflette sulla propria condizione di malato osservando i cambiamenti cui è soggetto il proprio corpo. E lì dove il linguaggio si arena, liquidando le immagini come infantili e banali, inizia ad aprirsi uno scarto dove si insinua il desiderio e dove continua a sgorgare la vita.

Movimenti coreografici, rime visive, giustapposizioni sinestetiche ed efflorescenze caleidoscopiche si manifestano sullo schermo fino a dilatare l’immagine e il suo senso presunto. Perché, se “qualsiasi uomo che esprime i suoi veri sentimenti è una drag queen”, non resta che tentare il rappacificamento con il corpo, far sì che la sua sofferenza non lo trasformi in un oggetto slegato dall’interiorità.

1996: the protagonist of this short film (seemingly Hoolboom himself) is a thirty-five-year-old HIV-positive man who, for the past 8 years, has been reflecting on his condition of patient observing the changes which his body is subjected to. And there, where language runs aground, dismissing the images as childish and trivial, a gap begins to opens up where desire creeps in and where life continues to flow.

Choreographic movements, visual rhymes, synesthetic juxtapositions and kaleidoscopic efflorescences manifest on screen until they dilate the image and its alleged sense. Because, if “any man who expresses his true feelings is a drag queen”, all that remains is to try to reconcile with the body, to ensure that his own suffering does not transform it into an object disconnected from his inner self.
