Una voce di donna presenta l’isola deserta dove la strega Sycorax è approdata insieme al figlio Calibano, lo schiavo deforme della Tempesta di William Shakespeare. Ma le immagini sono quelle del presente, ogni personaggio dell’opera viene cucito sopra l’immagine di una persona vista per strada. Si tratta forse del pensiero di una donna che deve adattare il dramma del drammaturgo inglese in terra portoghese? E perché, allora, si perde in un bosco alla ricerca di Ariel, lo spirito dell’aria?
Qui in co-regia con Lois Patiño, Matías Piñeiro pensa che il presente possa nascondere Shakespeare dietro ogni angolo, e per farlo vedere allo spettatore intesse il suo film più sospeso e magico, una seduta di ipnosi tenuta da una strega che sa far oscillare i confini fra realtà e finzione.

A female voice presents the desert island where the witch Sycorax landed with her son Caliban, the crooked slave from William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. But the images are the ones of the present, and every character from the play is sewed on the image of a person seen in the street. Is it maybe all about the thoughts of a woman who needs to adapt the English playwright’s drama in Portuguese land? And why, then, she gets lost in the woods looking for Ariel, the spirit of the air?
Co-directing with Lois Patiño, Matías Piñeiro thinks that the present day may hide Shakespeare behind any corner, and to make the spectator see that he creates his more suspended and magic movie, an hypnotic session held by a witch who’s able to blur the borders between reality and fiction.
