Durante la quarantena nel 2020 i due amici Mariano Llinás e Matías Piñeiro si sono spediti vicendevolmente delle videolettere – 8 videolettere, 4 l’uno – per creare una compilation di idee, pensieri e scambi su commissione di Sergi Álvarez Riosalido per La Casa Encendida di Madrid. Llinás è in Argentina e Piñeiro è a New York, e cominciano a ordinarsi a vicenda ritratti di luoghi, riflessioni su artisti, idee sul cinema.
Tra detour imprevisti e piccole sorprese, la raccolta di videolettere di due punte di diamante del nuovo cinema argentino è un atto di resistenza all’inedia da quarantena, ma anche l’ennesima entusiasmante esplorazione, da parte dei registi, di un cinema fatto con poco ma in grado di arrivare ovunque, attraversare continenti, restituire momenti di disarmante candore e costruire ragionamenti esaltanti su etica ed estetica. Basta un cellulare, corredato di curiosità.

During the quarantine in 2020, the two friends Mariano Llinás e Matías Piñeiro sent each other video letters – 8 in total, 4 each of them – to create a compilation of ideas, thoughts and exchanges commissioned by Sergi Álvarez Riosalido for La Casa Encendida (Madrid). Llinás is in Argentina and Piñeiro is in New York, and they begin to order each other portraits of places, reflections on artists, ideas on cinema.
Between unexpected detours and small surprises, the collection of video letters from two spearheads of the new Argentine cinema is an act of resistance to quarantine starvation, but also yet another exciting exploration, by these two directors, of a cinema made with little but capable of reaching everywhere, crossing continents, restoring moments of disarming candor and constructing exhilarating reasoning on ethics and aesthetics. All you need is a cell phone, accompanied by curiosity.
