Malgrado le difficoltà incontrate nella sua carriera, tra tentativi di suicidio e tossicodipendenza, ha ottenuto riconoscimenti grazie ai suoi successi e si è affermato come uno dei personaggi queer più importanti del wrestling, trasformando il ring in una metafora della lotta per affermare il diritto di assumere la propria identità.
