È professoressa emerita di Gender e Women Studies presso l'Università dell'Arizona. La sua ricerca storica, scrittura teorica e opere creative hanno contribuito a modellare la conversazione culturale su tematiche transgender fin dai primi anni Novanta, momento in cui ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Storia degli Stati Uniti presso l'Università della California-Berkeley. Susan Stryker is Professor Emerita of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Arizona. Her historical research, theoretical writing, and creative works have helped shape the cultural conversation on transgender issues since the early 1990s, at which time she received her PhD in U.S. History at the University of California-Berkeley. She is the author and editor of numerous essays and anthologies, including The Transgender Studies Reader (Routledge 2006) and Transgender History: The Roots of Today's Revolution (Seal Press 2008, 2017), recently translated into Italian by Luiss University Press. She won an Emmy Award for the documentary (ITVS 2005), and has received two career achievement awards for LGBTQIA+ studies: the David Kessler Award from the City University of New York's Center for LGBT Studies in 2008 and Yale University's Brudner Memorial Prize in 2015.

He is professor and chair of the Department of History at Pomona College, where he also chaired the American Studies program. His academic career began with the receipt of his Ph.D. in History from the University of California-Berkeley in 1990 and has continued at numerous universities in the United States, China and Mexico. His literary works include California: On the Road Histories, Los Angeles Times Front Page, and Imagining Internationalism. He directed, produced and wrote with Susan Stryker the Emmy Award-winning documentary Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria. His latest film, Getting High (2017), investigates the contradictions at the "war on drugs."
