Patricia Highsmith è la celebre autrice di ventidue romanzi, molti dei quali sono stati adattati per il grande schermo: i più noti sono L’altro uomo, adattato da Alfred Hitchock, Il talento di Mr. Ripley diretto da René Clément, Wim Wenders e Anthony Minghella, e Carol, romanzo in parte autobiografico su una storia d’amore tra due donne, da Todd Haynes. La Highsmith occupa uno spazio scomodo all’interno della letteratura queer per la sua tendenza a mescolare l'omoerotismo con l'omicidio e per come alcuni dei suoi personaggi più famosi affrontano la questione dell'eliminazione di ogni senso di colpa. Basato sui diari di Highsmith, il film getta nuova luce sulla sua vita e la sua opera, permeata dal tema dell'amore e incentrata sulla sua ricerca di identità e sulla sua travagliata vita amorosa.

Patricia Highsmith wrote over 22 novels, many were adapted to the big screen: best known are Strangers on a Train, adapted by Alfred Hitchock, The Talented Mr. Ripley directed by René Clément, Wim Wenders and Anthony Minghella, and Carol, a partly autobiographic novel on a lesbian love story, by Todd Haynes. Highsmith occupies an uneasy space in the queer literary canon for her tendency to mix homoeroticism with homicide in her novels and for the way that some of her most famous character deals with the issue of getting rid of any feeling of guilt. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s diaries, the film casts new light on the famous thriller writer’s life and oeuvre, permeated by themes of love and focused on her quest for identity and her troubled love life.

Nata a Basilea nel 1973, cresce a Zurigo. Dal 2002 lavora come sceneggiatrice e consulente per le sceneggiature per il cinema e la televisione. Firma vari film, fra cui Madly in Love (2010) e Sommervögel (2010). È membro della Commissione culturale della Cooperativa svizzera per i diritti d’autore di opere audiovisive Suissimage ed è vice-presidente della Swissfilm Association (ARF/FDS). Das Leben drehen – Wie mein Vater versuchte, das Glück festzuhalten (2015) costituisce il suo esordio nella regia cinematografica. Loving Highsmith è il suo secondo film.

Born in 1973 in Basel, she grew up in Zürich. Since 2002 she works as a screenwriter and script consultant for both television and cinema and signs several films such as Madly in Love (2010) and Little Paradise (2010). She is a member of the Cultural commission of the Swiss copyright society Suissimage and Vice-Chairwoman of the Swiss filmmakers Association (ARF/FDS). My Life as a Film: How my Father Tried to Capture Happiness (2015) is her first feature as a director followed by Loving Highsmith (2022).
