Moritz è un giovane che arriva a Berlino senza piani, seguendo per amore Jonas, un attraente fotografo che vive a pieno la intensa e fluida vita berlinese. Quando la relazione finisce improvvisamente, Moriz inizia a vagare per la città, in una ricerca di se stesso che lo porta a immergersi a pieno in una vita notturna grazie alla quale può realizzare i suoi desideri repressi. Con sensibilità da documentario, il lungometraggio d’esordio di Hannes Hirsch ritrae una iniziazione nella scena gay di Berlino. Una negoziazione continua delle nozioni di immagine del corpo di mascolinità, dove le costellazioni sessuali e le insicurezze sono sedate dall’eccitazione di incontri sempre nuovi. Rendendo la vulnerabilità di Moritz sempre percepibile, Drifter guarda sotto la superficie seducente di una cultura notturna che non conosce limiti e dei suoi giochi di breve durata, rivelando le persone reali piuttosto che celebrare il cliché.

Moritz is a young man who arrives in Berlin without plans, following for love Jonas, who is an attractive photographer who fully lives the intense and fluid life in Berlin. When the relationship suddenly ends, Moritz begins to wander around the city in search for himself, and that leads him to fully immerse himself in a nightlife where he can fulfill his repressed desires. With documentary sensibility, Hannes Hirsch’s feature debut portrays an initiation into Berlin’s gay scene. A continuous negotiation of body image’s notions of masculinity, where sexual constellations and insecurities are sedated by the excitement of new encounters. Making Moritz’s vulnerability always perceptible, Drifter looks beneath the seductive surface of a nocturnal culture that knows no bounds and its short-lived games, revealing real people rather than celebrating cliché.

Studente di regia alla scuola Filmarche a Berlino e della classe di Cinema Narrativo di Thomas Arslan all’Università di Belle Arti di Berlino. Ha lavorato su film di diversa lunghezza e formato, da Barking Dogs (2007) a Pink Boys (2008) (presentato all’Internationale Filmtage di Amburgo e all’Achtung Berlin nel 2009) fino al mediometraggio Beach Boy, che è stato presentato in numerosi festival (per esempio il Max Ophüls Preis e l’International Film Festival dell’Uruguay), vincendo il premio al miglior mediometraggio all’Achtung Berlin. Ha fondato nel 2009 la compagnia di produzione Milieufilm insieme a Diemo Kemmesies, ed è creatore e sviluppatore del software di preproduzione Fuzzlecheck. Ha in lavorazione il cortometraggio sperimentale Routes, e il suo primo lungometraggio, Drifter, è passato da Berlinale Panorama, dal BFI Flare di Londra e da vari altri festival europei.

Student of movie direction at the Filmarche school in Berlin, he attended the Thomas Arslan’s Narrative Film class at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. He has worked on films of different lengths and format, from Barking Dogs (2007) to Pink Boys (2008) (which was presented at the International Filmtage Hamburg and at the Acthung Berlin in 2009) up to the medium-length film Beach Boy, which was presented in numerous festivals (for example the Max Ophüls Preis and the International Film Festival of Uruguay), winning the award for best medium-length film at the Achtung Berlin. He founded the production company Milieufilm in 2009 together with Diemo Kemmiesies, and he is the creator and developer of the media pre-production software Fuzzlecheck. The post-production of his experimental short Routs is in process, while his first feature length film, Drifter, has been screened at the Berlinale Panorama, at the BFI Flare in London and at various other European festivals.
