Loïc è un ragazzo che vive a Bulle, nel cantone svizzero di Friburgo. La sua vita è scandita tra il lavoro in una fabbrica di cioccolato e le serate spese in incontri occasionali con uomini conosciuti in chat. Più che stupido Loïc è incolto e pigro, e la sua curiosità indolente viene appagata solo mediante i mezzi più semplici e immediati. Oltre agli uomini che frequenta, nella vita di Loïc è presente anche Marie, amica verso la quale nutre un affetto ambiguo, fatto di tenerezza e autolesionismo. Un incidente occorso a Marie e l'incontro con un calciatore spezzerà la routine del protagonista. Primo lungometraggio di finzione di Lionel Baier, Garçon stupide è diventato immediatamente un film cult della cinematografia gay.
Loïc is a young man who lives in Bulle, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. His life is marked by work and nights spent seeing men met online. Loïc is not stupid, but he is lazy and ignorant, and his curiosity is only satisfied in the simplest and most immediate ways. In addition to the men he goes out with, Marie is another presence in Loïc’s life. Marie is a friend he feels an ambiguous affection for, made of tenderness and self-destruction. An accident occurred to Marie and meeting a soccer player will change Loïc’s routine. Baier’s Garçon stupide, his first fiction movie, has soon become a cult among gay movies.
Lionel Baier
Di origini polacche, nasce a Losanna, dove studia lettere, nel 1975. Dopo essere stato aiuto regista di Jacqueline Veuve, esordisce firmando numerosi documentari, tra cui Celui au pasteur (ma vision personnelle des choses) e La parade (notre histoire), per poi passare ai lungometraggi di finzione con Garçon stupide cui seguiranno Un autre homme e Low cost (Claude Jutra), selezionati dal Festival del film di Locarno. Nel 2013 presenta Les grandes ondes (à l’ouest), secondo capitolo della tetralogia sull’Europa dopo Comme des voleurs (à l’est) del 2006, e nel 2015 La vanité. Dal 2002 dirige il dipartimento di cinema dell’École cantonale d’art de Lausanne ed è nel 2009 tra i cofondatori della Bande à part Films.
He was born in Lausanne, where he studied Literature, in 1975 from a Polish family. After been assistant director of Jacqueline Veuve, he makes his debut with many documentaries, Celui au pasteur (ma vision personnelle des choses), two short movies Mignon à croquer and Jour de défil, he then moves on to feature-length fiction movies, such as Garçon stupide, followed by Un autre homme and Low cost, both selected by the Festival del film di Locarno. In 2013, he presented Les Grandes Ondes (à l’Ouest), the second part of the series on Europe after Comme des voleurs (à l’est) in 2006, and in 2015 La vanité. Since 2002, he has run the cinema department of the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne and in 2009 he was co-founder of the Bande à part Films.
