Un implacabile seppur intimo ritratto di Helmut Berger, leggendario attore e prima “musa” di Luchino Visconti. All'apice del suo successo e della sua bellezza Berger incarnava l'esuberante stile di vita jet set degli anni 70. Da pochi anni la sua vita è però diventata più solitaria e modesta. L'uomo che personificava Re Ludovico II in maniera così inquietante nel Ludwig di Visconti ora regna in un decadente bilocale nella periferia della sua città natale, Salisburgo. In questo piccolo regno nascosto il tempo sembra essersi fermato. L'umore di Helmut Berger oscilla e all'improvviso esplode in un'aggressiva filippica in ricordo dell'attore Klaus Kinski. Ma il film rivela l'asprezza del suo personaggio per quello che rappresenta davvero: una richiesta di attenzione, vicinanza ed intimità.

A relentless, yet intimate portrait of the legendary actor and former Luchino Visconti “muse” Helmut Berger. At the height of his stardom and handsomeness Berger epitomized the exuberant jet set lifestyle of the 70s. In recent years he has settled for a more secluded and modest lifestyle. The man who embodied King Ludwig II so hauntingly in Visconti’s same titled film now reigns in a run down two room apartment at the outskirts of his hometown Salzburg, Austria. In this small hideaway kingdom time seems to have stopped. Helmut Berger’s mood swings and sudden outbursts of aggression are reminiscent of actor Klaus Kinski’s tirades. But the film exposes the brusqueness of his character for what it really is: a cry for attention, closeness and intimacy.

Andreas Horvath nasce a Salisburgo nel 1968. Studia fotografia a Vienna e arte multimediale a Salisburgo. Come fotografo e filmmaker freelance pubblica photo book e realizza film indipendenti. I documentari di Horvath hanno ricevuto premi in diversi film festival internazionali, come il Chicago International Documentary Film Festival, il Karlovy Vary IFF o il Max Ophüls Prize Festival. Come fotografo, Andreas Horvath pubblica album fotografici in bianco e nero sulla Yakutia, la Siberia e l'America rurale. Nel 2013 viene premiato dal Ministro di Arte e Cultura austriaco con l'Outstanding Arsting Award. Nel 2015 presenta Helmut Berger, actor, selezionato da John Waters come il Miglior Film del 2015, primo in una vista che include tra gli altri Carol di Todd Haynes, Cinderella di Kenneth Branagh e Mad Max: Fury Road di George Miller.

Andreas Horvath was born in Salzburg in 1968. He studied photography in Vienna and multimedia-art in Salzburg. As a freelance photographer and filmmaker he publishes photo books and creates independent films. Horvath ́s documentaries have received awards at international film festivals, such as the Chicago International Documentary Film Festival, the Karlovy Vary IFF or the Max Ophüls Prize Festival. As a photographer Andreas Horvath published black and white photo albums about Yakutia, Siberia and rural America. In 2013 he received the Outstanding Artist Award from the Austrian Ministry of Art and Culture. In 2015 he released Helmut Berger, actor, selected by John Waters as the Best Motion Picture of the year 2015, heading a list which includes Todd Haynes' Carol, Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella, and George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road among others.
