Per una ragazza come Dora, giovane disabile di diciotto anni, la sessualità non è mai stata un problema. Quando però sua madre Kristin decide che per lei è il momento di interrompere la psicoterapia a base di sedativi, tutto a un tratto le cose cominciano a cambiare. Dora inizia a sbocciare e ad accorgersene pare non essere solo lei. Un uomo entra nella vita della ragazza e, alle spalle dei suoi genitori, Dora inizia a intraprendere una relazione sessuale con questo strano individuo. Catturato dalla incontrollabile sensualità della ragazza, l'uomo metterà incinta Dora che dovrà quindi confrontarsi con sua madre, incredula riguardo l'accaduto.

For a girl like Dora, an eighteen years old young mentally disabled, sexuality isn't even be a problem. However, when her mother Kristin decides to interrupt her psychotherapy medications, all of a sudden things begin to change. Dora starts to blossom and to notice that not seems to be only her. A man join in the girl's life and, behind her parents’ back, Dora begins a sexual relation with this strange guy. Taken by her unrestrained sensuality, the man gets Dora pregnant which should relate with her mother, dismayed by the fact.

Nata a Basilea nel 1964, Stina Werenfels inizia a scrivere sceneggiature per cortometraggi durante gli studi di farmacologia a Zurigo. Quindi si trasferisce a New York per studiare Filmmaking alla NYU Tisch School of the Arts dove partecipa a diverse masterclass tenute da personaggi di spicco come Spike Lee, Arthur Penn e Sondra Lee. Nel 1994, il suo primo documentario, Fragments from the Lower East Side, vince svariati premi in Svizzera e negli Stati Uniti. Ritornata in Svizzera, dirige Pastry, Pain & Politics (1998), un cortometraggio che ancora una volta ottiene un discreto successo, vincendo il Premio del cinema svizzero. Nel 2006 ha girato il primo lungometraggio di finzione, Going Private, presentato Festival internazionale del cinema di Berlino, così come il suo ultimo film Dora oder Die sexuellen Neurosen unserer Eltern.

Born in Basel in 1964, Stina Werenfels began writing scripts for short films when she was still studying Pharmacology in Zurich. She then went on to study Filmmaking at the University of New York’s Tisch School of the Arts where she attended several master classes held by distinguished speakers such as Spike Lee, Arthur Penn and Sondra Lee. In 1994, her first documentary, Fragments from the Lower East Side, won several prizes in Switzerland and the United States. On her return to Switzerland, she directed Pastry, Pain & Politics (1998), a short film which once again won numerous awards, including the Swiss Film Prize. In 2006 she made her first fiction feature, Going Private, premiered at the Berlinale, as well as her last movie, Dora or the Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents.
