J ha quattordici anni. J vuole essere chiamato “they”. “They” in inglese vuol dire “loro”. J vivono con i genitori nella periferia di Chicago. Stanno esplorando la loro identità di genere mentre seguono una terapia ormonale per ritardare la pubertà. Dopo due anni di terapia, J devono decidere se effettuare o no la transizione. Durante il week-end decisivo, mentre i loro genitori sono in viaggio, la sorella di J e il suo ragazzo iraniano arrivano per prendersi cura di “They”. After two years of therapy, J have to make a decision whether or not to transition. Over this crucial weekend while their parents are away, J’s sister and her Iranian boyfriend arrive to take care of “They”. Thanks also to an ethereal cinematography, which portrays the intimate and veiled dimension of the main character, is a film which deals with the subtle subject of gender transition with a disarming gentleness and simplicity.
