tú me abrasas si apre col ricordo del suicidio di Pavese il 27 agosto del 1950, in una camera dell'albergo Roma a Torino. Sul comodino c’erano i Dialoghi con Leucò, scritti da Pavese tra il 1945 e il 1947. Le immagini scorrono sullo schermo riunendo frammenti di vita in Spagna, in Grecia, a New York, mentre le attrici protagoniste parlano di amore, amicizia, dolore, memoria, rimpianto, morte e destino attraverso letture e traduzioni che vanno oltre i miti di Pavese e della poetessa greca Saffo. Torino è semi deserta nella canicola di agosto, le onde si infrangono ripetutamente sugli scogli, un rubinetto sta colando, i palazzi si muovono, un campanello suona.
Con tú me abrasas Piñeiro adatta il dialogo di Saffo e Britomarti cercando i segreti nella metrica e nei misteri atavici dei versi della poetessa attraverso immagini allusive ed enigmatiche. Il risultato è una narrazione che si rinnova a ogni lettura e rende le conversazioni tra la poetessa e la ninfa aperte a sempre nuove interpretazioni.

You Burn Me opens with an image of the room at the Roma hotel in Turin where Pavese committed suicide on 27 August 1950. On the night table he left a copy of Dialogues with Leucò, written by Pavese himself between 1945 and 1947. The images scroll across the screen bringing together fragments of life in Spain, Greece, New York, while the main actresses talk about love, friendship, pain, memory, regret, death and destiny through readings and translations that go beyond the myths of Pavese and of the poet Sappho. Turin is semi-deserted in the heat of August, the waves repeatedly crash on the rocks, a tap is dripping, buildings are moving, a doorbell rings.
With You Burn Me Piñeiro adapts the dialogue between Sappho and Britomartis looking for secrets in the metrics and in the ancestral mysteries of the poet’s verses through allegorical and enigmatic images. As an end result, we can relish various layers of reading, and the conversations between the Greek poet Sappho and the nymph Britomartis open to being viewed in newer and newer ways.

È nato a Buenos Aires nel 1982. Vive a New York dal 2011. È regista e scrittore e ha realizzato lungometraggi e cortometraggi presentati in anteprima alla Berlinale, Locarno, Cannes, Toronto e New York. I suoi film di solito hanno come punto di partenza riferimenti letterari cari al regista come William Shakespeare, Cesare Pavese, Saffo e Domingo F. Sarmiento. Insegna cinema al Pratt Institute, New York, e coordina il programma di cinema presso l’Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola a San Sebastian. Ha anche lavorato alla programmazione di film per Anthology Film Archives e per il festival cinematografico Punto de Vista. Attualmente sta lavorando all’adattamento de La lezione del maestro di Henry James e ad un film-saggio tratto dal De remediis utriusque fortunae di Francesco Petrarca.

He was born in Buenos Aires in 1982. Based in New York since 2011. He is a film director and writer with feature and short films premiered in Berlinale, Locarno, Cannes, Toronto and New York Film Festival. His films usually spring from various literary sources such as William Shakespeare, Cesare Pavese, Sappho and Domingo F. Sarmiento. He teaches cinema at Pratt Institute, New York, and coordinates the filmmaking program at Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, San Sebastian. He also has worked in film programming for Anthology Film Archives and Punto de Vista film festival. He is currently working on the adaptation of The Lesson of the Master by Henry James and on an essay film based on Francesco Petrarca’s De remediis utriusque fortunae.
