La voce dell’attrice due volte premio Oscar Glenda Jackson ci accompagna in un’immersione nella scena lesbica londinese del 1966. Alla ricerca di un piccolo microcosmo in cui fuggire da una realtà che odorava (o forse odora) unicamente di discriminazione e morte.
Come dei palombari, in The Microcosm gli spettatori navigano fra immagini e volti che ricostruiscono l’atmosfera di sicurezza e vitalità del Gateways Club di Chelsea, a Londra negli anni Sessanta, quando l’omosessualità è ancora criminalizzata, sia che riguardi uomini sia che riguardi donne. La prosa poetica di Maureen Duffy, protagonista di quella realtà del passato, lascia intendere che forse quei problemi e quei paradossi non sono poi così lontani.

The voice of the two-times Oscar winner Glenda Jackson accompanies us in a submersion into the London lesbian scene in 1966. In search of a little microcosm in which one can hide from a reality that only smelled (or maybe still smells) of discrimination and death.
Like divers, in The Microcosm viewers swim around images and faces that build up the atmosphere of security and vitality of Chelsea’s Gateways Club, in London in the Sixties, when homosexuality was still criminalised, for men as well as for women. The poetic prose of Maureen Duffy, protagonist of that past reality, makes us understand that maybe those problems and those paradoxes are not so far yet.

Regista e produttore inglese, con una formazione da giornalista con VICE, Gay Times e NME, ha partecipato alla realizzazione di serie e contenuti televisivi per BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky, A+E, Paramount+. Ha partecipato altresì a vari festival, fra cui il BFI Flare, il New York NewFest e il Dublin Gaze nel 2019 ha presentato Invisible Women (2018) in qualità di produttore; come regista ha esordito con Baby Lies Truthfully (2020), che è stato selezionato al BFI Flare, al GAZE e al WickedQueer nel 2021.

English director and producer, with a background in journalism within VICE, Gay Times and NME, he was involved in the release of series and TV contents for BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky, A+E and Paramount+. In various festivals such as BFI Flare, New York NewFest and Dublin Gaze in 2019 he presented Invisible Women (2018) as producer; as director, he debuted with Baby Lies Truthfully (2020), which was selected in BFI Flare, GAZE and WickedQueer in 2021.
