La Serranía Baja de Cuenca (Spagna) è una terra dove si coltivano due specie di mandorle: le larguetas e le marconas. Quando l'artista è andato a scuotere i mandorli con la sua famiglia, Cande Lázaro ha capito "mariconas" ("frocio" in spagnolo) invece di "marconas". Da questo spostamento, l'artista inizia a porsi domande sui confini di cui le persone queer fanno esperienza nelle aree rurali.
Un montaggio di video personali e archivi fotografici, Mar(i)cona offre una riflessione intima sul rapporto tra territorio e identità, ruralità e queerness, norma e dissidenza, tracciando uno spazio espressivo tra saggio audiovisivo e personal cinema che sfida le false evidenze sulla costruzione del sé, il rapporto con l'ambiente e la rappresentazione di un territorio troppo spesso ridotto a paesaggi pastorali o a un vuoto geografico.

The Serranía Baja de Cuenca (Spain) is a land where two species of almonds are grown: larguetas and marconas. When the artist went to shake the almond trees with his family, Cande Lázaro understood "mariconas" ("faggot" in Spanish) instead of "marconas". From this displacement, the artist starts arising questions about the boundaries queer people have in rural areas.
A montage of personal video and photo archives, Mar(i)cona delivers an intimate reflection on the relationship between territory and identity, rurality and queerness, norm and dissidence, mapping out a space of expression between audiovisual essay and personal cinema challenging the false evidence on the construction of the self, the relationship to the environment and the representation of a territory too often reduced to pastoral landscapes or to a geographical void.

Nato nel 1997 a Badajoz, è un artista laureato in Comunicazione audiovisiva presso l'Università Carlos III di Madrid. Successivamente, ha conseguito il diploma in cinema documentario presso l'Istituto Cinematografico di Madrid. I suoi lavori sono stati presentati in festival come il Festival del Cinema Documentario di Alcances, il Festival del Cinema Indipendente L'Alternativa di Barcellona, il Festival Una Casa e il Festival BideOtik di Bilbao, oltre a proiezioni presso la Cineteca/Matadero e FILMIN. Nel 2021 ottiene la residenza artistica della Tabakalera Donostia con il suo progetto di documentario La Pastora. Nel 2022 ha iniziato a collaborare con il Cabildo de Gran Canaria al progetto Mestura nel suo lavoro di revisione dell'archivio cinematografico canario e sta preparando la sua prima mostra "amatoriale" con la Sala della Cultura di Getxo; ha inoltre partecipato alla Residenza DiiiiP diretta dal regista Manuel Abramovich.

Born in 1997 in Badajoz, he is an artist graduated in Audiovisual Communication from the Carlos III University of Madrid. Subsequently, he completed the Documentary Film Diploma at the Madrid Film Institute. His pieces have appeared at festivals such as the Alcances Documentary Film Festival, the L’Alternativa Independent Cinema Festival in Barcelona, the Una Casa Festival and the BideOtik Festival in Bilbao, along with screenings at Cineteca/Matadero and FILMIN. In 2021 he obtained the artistic residence of Tabakalera Donostia with his documentary project La Pastora. In 2022 he started working with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria on the Mestura project in his work reviewing the Canarian film archive and is preparing his first "amateur" exhibition with the Getxo Culture Hall; he also took part in the DiiiiP Residence directed by the filmmaker Manuel Abramovich.
