Immersi nella campagna argentina, lontani dalla concitata atmosfera cittadina, un gruppo di artisti – una famiglia – si ritrova a registrare, sotto forma di diario, i momenti trascorsi a prendersi cura di un branco di maiali, in attesa della nascita di una cucciolata. Episodio di Bitácoras – miniserie composta da cinque documentari realizzati da altrettante registe –, Diario rural è un manifesto della poetica di Laura Citarella e un resoconto dell’anomalo periodo pandemico. Arduo stabilire dove inizi la creazione e dove finisca l’osservazione, tanto che la parola “filmare” può essere confusa con “rubare”: ci sono degli attori che pur “fingendo” creano una narrazione imperniata nel reale, nella contingenza. Un cinema rurale in cui i tempi dell’inquadratura non sono dettati dal volere di un demiurgo, ma assecondano i ritmi del mondo animale; un gesto artistico che costruisce un presente alternativo a quello del confinamento, filmando/rubando la “parte vitale” per esorcizzare la morte.

Immersed in the Argentine countryside, far from the bustling city, a group of artists – a family – find themselves recording, in the form of a diary, the moments spent caring for a herd of pigs, awaiting the birth of a litter. An episode of Bitácoras – a miniseries composed of five documentaries made by as many female directors –, Diario rural is a manifesto of Laura Citarella's poetics and a report of the anomalous pandemic period. It is hard to determine where creation begins and observation ends, so much so that the word "filming" can be confused with "stealing": there are actors who, while "pretending", create a narrative hinged in reality, in contingency. A rural cinema in which the timing of the shot is not dictated by the will of a demiurge, but panders to the rhythms of the animal world; an artistic gesture that constructs an alternative present to that of confinement, filming/stealing the "vital share" to exorcise death.

Classe 1981, è una regista e produttrice argentina, nonché una delle autrici più interessanti del Nuovo cinema argentino. Ha conseguito un diploma in regia cinematografica presso la Universidad del Cine di Buenos Aires. È tra i fondatori – insieme a Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky e Agustín Mendilaharzu – della società di produzione El Pampero Cine. Nel 2011 dirige il suo primo lungometraggio, Ostende, cui segue La mujer de los perros (2015), co-diretto con Verónica Llinás. Nel 2019 co-dirige con Mercedes Halfon Las poetas visitan a Juana Bignozzi. Trenque Lauquen, il suo film più recente, è stato presentato nella sezione Orizzonti del festival di Venezia nel 2022. Ha prodotto, tra gli altri, film pluripremiati come Historias extraordinarias (2008) e La flor (2018) di Mariano Llinás, Castro (2009) ed El loro y el cisne (2013) di Alejo Moguillansky, El escarabajo de oro (2014) di Moguillansky e Fia-Stina Sandlund.

Born in 1981, she is an Argentine film director and producer, as well as one of the most notable authors of the "New Argentine Cinema movement”. She graduated as a film director from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. She is one of the founders – together with Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky and Agustín Mendilaharzu – of the production company El Pampero Cine. In 2011 she directed her first feature film, Ostende, which was followed by Dog Lady (2015), co-directed with Verónica Llinás. In 2019 she co-directs with Mercedes Halfon The Poets Visit Juana Bignozzi. Trenque Lauquen, her most recent film, was screened in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival in 2022. She has produced, among others, award-winning films such as Historias extraordinarias (2008) and La flor (2018) by Mariano Llinás, Castro (2009) and The Parrot and the Swan (2013) by Alejo Moguillansky, The Gold Bug (2014) by Moguillansky and Fia-Stina Sandlund.
