Requiescant è un giovane cresciuto da un predicatore itinerante che lo ha trovato da piccolo dopo un massacro in cui tutta la sua famiglia è rimasta uccisa. Attraversa il paese alla ricerca della sorella adottiva e la trova nella proprietà di George Ferguson, l’uomo che aveva ordinato l’uccisione della sua famiglia per il controllo della terra che le apparteneva. Questo insolito Spaghetti Western diretto da Lizzani si concentra più sul messaggio politico del diritto alla libertà che sulla trama, ma ci regala due personaggi indimenticabili: il pacifista Requiescant (Lou Castel) che si rivela un infallibile pistolero, e il carismatico Ferguson (Mark Damon), un cattivo la cui malvagità, descritta con tratti quasi gotici, domina ogni scena in cui compare.

Requiescant is a young man raised by a travelling preacher who discovered him as a baby after the massacre of his family. He travels across the country searching for his adopted sister and he finds her in the property of George Ferguson, who was the man who ordered the death of the man’s family all for the control over the land that belonged to them. This unusual Spaghetti Western directed by Lizzani concentrate on its political message about the right to be free more than on the plot but provides two unforgettable characters: the pacifist Requiescant (Lou Castel) who just happens to be an excellent shot, and the charismatic Ferguson (Mark Damon), a bad guy whose evilness with gothic features dominates every scene he is in.

Nato a Roma nel 1922, Carlo Lizzani ha lavorato come sceneggiatore in film come Germania anno zero di Roberto Rossellini (1948), Il mulino del Po di Alberto Lattuada (1949) e Riso amaro di Giuseppe De Santis (1949). Ha debuttato come regista con Achtung! Banditi! (1951). Il suo film L'oro di Roma (1961) esaminava gli eventi intorno alla deportazione definitiva degli ebrei di Roma nel 1943. Per il suo film Banditi a Milano (1968) ha vinto un David di Donatello per la miglior regia. Con Celluloide (1996) ha ricevuto un altro David di Donatello per la sceneggiatura. È morto nel 2013 mentre preparava il film L'orecchio del potere, progetto che coltivava dalla fine degli anni Novanta.

Born in Rome in 1922, Carlo Lizzani has worked as a screenwriter in films such as Germany, Year Zero by Roberto Rossellini (1948), The Mill on the Po by Alberto Lattuada (1949) and Bitter Rice by Giuseppe De Santis (1949). He made his directorial debut with Achtung! Bandits! (1951). His film Gold of Rome (1961) examined the events surrounding the definitive deportation of the Jews of Rome in 1943. For his film The Violent Four (1968) he won a David di Donatello award for best director. With Celluloide (1996) he received another David di Donatello for his screenplay. He died in 2013 while preparing for the film L'orecchio del potere, a project he had been cultivating since the late 1990s.
