Un IT worker di un’azienda, affetto da un disturbo simile all’acufene, si chiude in una stanza per fare degli esperimenti su materiali e corpi di animali. Vuole dimostrare che ogni oggetto di derivazione organica emette un suono, che questo suono comunica qualcosa e che la sensazione si acuisce quando il corpo in questione agonizza e muore. Il film è la ricostruzione, con sguardo allucinato e ossessivo, della progressiva follia megalomane del protagonista, spinto in un baratro di violenza sadica e truculenta dal desiderio di una presunta scoperta scientifica. Tramite l’uso di macro, dettagli gore e una voice over dal ritmo compulsivo, il regista austriaco sfrutta i traumi del protagonista – tra i quali, la perdita di compagni e amici al Pulse Gay Shooting di Orlando nel 2016 – per restituire allo spettatore un’esperienza horror non adatta agli stomaci deboli.

A company IT worker with a tinnitus-like disorder locks himself into a room to experiment with biological materials and animal bodies. He wants to demonstrate that every organically derived object emits a sound, that this sound communicates something and that the sensation is heightened when the body in question agonizes and dies. The film is the progressive reconstruction, with hallucinated and obsessive gaze, of the protagonist’s megalomaniac madness, pushed into an abyss of sadistic and truculent violence by the desire for an alleged scientific discovery. Through the use of macros, gore details and a voice over with a compulsive rhythm, the Austrian director employs the traumas of the protagonist – including the loss of companions and friends at the Pulse Gay Shooting in Orlando in 2016 – to give back to the viewer an horror experience not for the faint-hearted.

Artista, regista, scrittore, attore, regista teatrale e performer, nasce a Vienna nel 1975. È il fondatore del gruppo austriaco Monochrom, interessato alla ricerca su sessualità, tecnologia e cultura underground. È a capo di Arse Elektronika, una conferenza che ogni anno a San Francisco si occupa del legame fra sesso ed evoluzione tecnologica. Ha all’attivo quattro lungometraggi: Die Gstettensaga – The Rise of Echsenfriedl (2014), Traceroute (2016), Glossary of Broken Dreams (2018) e Masking Threshold (2021). È al lavoro su una commedia sci-fi dal titolo Je suis Auto in co-regia con Juliana Neuhuber.

Artist, director, writer, actor, theatre director and performer, he was born in Vienna in 1975. He is founder of the Austrian Monochrom group, which is interested in researches on sexuality, technology and underground culture. He’s head of Arse Elektronika, a conference that every year in San Francisco has as main subject the link between sex and technology evolution. To date he released four feature films: Die Gstettensaga – The Rise of Echsenfriedl (2014), Traceroute (2016), Glossary of Broken Dreams (2018) and Masking Threshold (2021). He’s working on a sci-fi comedy, Je suis Auto, which is co-directed by Juliana Neuhuber.
