Il 4 ottobre del 2007 Arantza Santesteban viene arrestata per la presunta partecipazione a un gruppo terroristico. Passa in carcere 918 notti. Di quei giorni ricorda soltanto le routine, gli spazi, alcuni volti.
Con stile rigoroso e intransigente, la regista racconta uno stato d’animo ferito procedendo tramite commentari, documenti, foto, video e sprazzi di vita quotidiana. L’indagine delle materie prime di ogni documentazione (immagini e parole) le permette di elaborare un processo a se stessa, e ogni indizio sembra portare a un presente apparentemente svuotato, ma forse aperto a nuove possibilità.

On 4th October 2007, Arantza Santesteban was arrested for alleged role in a terrorist group. She spends 918 nights in jail. Of those days she just remembers the routines, the spaces, some faces. With a rigorous and uncompromising style, the director shows a wounded state of mind by proceeding through commentaries, documents, photos, videos and glimpses of everyday life. The investigation of the raw materials of each documentation (images and words) allows her to develop a trial to herself, and each clue seems to lead to an apparently empty present, which maybe is open to new possibilities.

Nata a Iruñea nel 1979, è storica, regista e ricercatrice indipendente. Si è diplomata in Creative Documentary Making e si è interessata al conflitto dei Paesi Baschi da una prospettiva femminista. È laureata in Storia e si è occupata di Sceneggiatura per documentari con Carmen Ovalos, seguendo training specifici di Victor Erice e Patricio Guzman. È regista fin dal 2012, con l’esordio al cortometraggio Passatgeres (2012). Il corto Euritan (2017) è selezionato per il catalogo KIMUAK del 2017 e presentato in vari festival fra cui il Malaga Film Festival. Nel 2018 approda al San Sebastian Film Festival tramite il programma internazionale Ikusmira Berriak. Esordisce nel lungometraggio nel 2021 con 918 Gau.

Born in Iruñea in 1979, she is an historian, director and independent researcher. She graduated in Creative Documentary Making and dealt with the conflict in the Basque Country from a feminist perspective. She graduated in History and worked in Documentary Film Screenwriting with Carmen Ovalos, following specific training by Victor Erice and Patricio Guzman. She begins to direct in 2012 with her first short movie Passatgeres (2012). The short In the Rain (2017) is selected for the 2017 KIMUAK catalogue and presented at various festivals including the Malaga Film Festival. In 2018 she arrives at San Sebastian Film Festival through the international program Ikusmira Berriak. In 2021 she releases her feature film debut, 918 Nights.
