Intrappolata in una relazione infelice, una donna trascorre delle tetre cene al fianco del fidanzato che ingurgita cibo e birra, evitando ogni tipo di contatto. Una sera, nel tentativo di cambiare le cose, affronta l’uomo, dal quale subisce però un rifiuto inamovibile e distaccato. La frustrazione serpeggiante trova però una valvola di sfogo dietro le ante dell’armadio della sua stanza, dove una strana creatura dai connotati alieni la cinge in un violento amplesso. Nel frattempo altri esemplari della strana creatura invadono le strade della metropoli, imparando a coesistere con gli esseri umani. Extraneous Matter - Complete Edition prende le mosse dalla messinscena artigianale e ipercinetica che ha reso celebre il cinema cyberpunk nipponico degli anni Ottanta e coglie la Weltschmerz contemporanea, inneggiando a una possibile liberazione.

Trapped in an unhappy relationship, a woman spends grim dinners alongside her boyfriend who gulps down food and beer, avoiding any contact. One evening, in an attempt to change things, she faces the man, who rejects and drifts her apart. However, her snaking frustration finds an outlet behind the closet doors in her room, where a strange creature with alien features surrounds her in a violent embrace. Meanwhile, other specimens swarm the streets of the metropolis, learning to coexist with humans. Extraneous Matter-Complete Edition starts from the artisanal and hyperkinetic mise-en-scène that made the Japanese cyberpunk cinema of the 80s renowned and captures the Weltschmerz of the contemporary world, while praising a possible liberation.

Nato a Tokyo nel 1984. Ha debuttato con il lungometraggio nel 2016 con Ganguro Gal’s Riot e ha trovato successo in patria con il successivo Good-Bye Silence del 2018. Nel 2019 Wild Virgins, suo terzo lungometraggio, è stato selezionato, tra gli altri, al Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival e al Fantafestival di Roma. Nel 2020, il quarto lungometraggio Rolling Marbles, dedicato alla vita delle donne a Tokyo, è uscito in occasione del 15° anniversario della celebre rivista Nylon Japan. La serie di cortometraggi Extraneous Matter è stata presentata in oltre 75 festival e in 20 paesi e ha vinto più di 11 premi. Extraneous Matter-Complete Edition è stato proiettato al Torino Film Festival e al Festival du Nouveau Cinéma di Montréal. Il suo cortometraggio più recente, la commedia horror Visitors, ha vinto il primo premio al NY Shorts International FilmFestival.

Born in 1984 in Tokyo. He made his debut in theatres in 2016, directing the first feature film Ganguro Gal’s Riot. After that, he directed the second feature film Good-Bye Silence. In 2019, the third feature film Wild Virgins was released and was selected for many film festivals such as the 38th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and the 40th Fantafestival. In 2020, the fourth feature film Rolling Marbles, which depicts women living in Tokyo, was released as the 15th anniversary movie of the famous magazine Nylon Japan. His series of short films, Extraneous Matter, has been screened at more than 75 film festivals in 20 countries and has won more than 11 top awards. Extraneous Matter-Complete Edition has been screened at the Torino Film Festival and the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. His latest short horror comedy, Visitors, won the top prize at the NY Shorts International FilmFestival.
