Il neo adolescente afroamericano “Grullo” vive nel ghetto con la madre malata e la sorella e devono fronteggiare, senza possibilità economiche, uno sfratto imminente. Così Grullo si lascia convincere da uno scassinatore locale a rapinare la lussuosa casa di una coppia all’apparenza unicamente sui generis, che si rivelerà dedita al sequestro, alla tortura, all’omicidio e molto altro.
Parodia horror della falsa morale della middle class statunitense, metafora iperbolica delle divisioni tra classi e forte critica sociale, il film di Wes Craven The People Under The Stairs (La Casa Nera nella versione italiana) ha in sé tutti i tratti distintivi della cinematografia del regista: l’ironia, il gusto per il grottesco, la riflessione politica agita tramite il cinema di genere, lo smodato utilizzo di sangue e violenza.

African-American teenager "Fool" lives in the ghetto with his sick mother and his sister. They are facing an imminent foreclosure and have no financial means. Grullo is then persuaded by a local burglar to rob the luxurious house of a seemingly uniquely sui generis couple, who will turn out to be dedicated to kidnapping, torture, murder and more.
A horror parody of the false morality of the American middle class, an hyperbolic metaphor of the divisions between classes and a strong social criticism, Wes Craven's film The People Under The Stairs has all the distinctive traits of the director's cinematography: irony, a taste for the grotesque, political reflection acted out through genre cinema, the immoderate use of blood and violence.

Wes Craven ha scritto e diretto più di venti lungometraggi, molti dei quali divenuti dei cult e degli enormi successi di botteghino. Tra i suoi titoli più famosi: L'ultima casa a sinistra (1972); Le colline hanno gli occhi (1977); Nightmare - Dal profondo della notte (1984); Il serpente e l'arcobaleno (1988); Scream (1996 - 2011).

Director, screenwriter, actor and producer. Born in Cleveland in 1939, died in 2015 in Los Angeles. Wes Craven wrote and directed more than twenty feature films, many of which have become cult hits and huge box office successes. Among his most famous titles: The Last House on the Left (1972); The Hills Have Eyes (1977); A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984); The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988); the Scream saga (1996 - 2011).
