Nato dalla collaborazione tra Yann Gonzalez e la musicista Jita Sensation, Fou de Bassan è fluida utopia sessuale, sogno erotico, improvvisazione libera sulle note di un sassofono che riscalda la notte. Tra Louis Malle, Lynch e Fassbinder una rivisitazione lesbica del cruising, gioco seducente en plein air, una «Querelle de Brest» al femminile dove nebbia e neon blu-rosati avvolgono una città morta vivificata dal desiderio e resa, così, palcoscenico.
È cinema queer anche nella forma, un cinema che non teme di attraversare le frontiere dei generi: videoclip? Cortometraggio? Al bando le definizioni. Nella notte si liberano i fantasmi e la magia vibra al suono della musica.

Born from the collaboration between Yann Gonzalez and the musician Jita Sensation, Fou de Bassan is a fluid sexual utopia, an erotic dream, a free improvisation on the notes of a saxophone that warms the night. Between Louis Malle, Lynch and Fassbinder, the film is a lesbian reinterpretation of cruising, a seductive game en plein air, a feminine "querelle de Brest" where fog and pinkish-blue neon envelop a dead city enlivened by desire, that is transformed into a stage.
It is queer cinema also in its form, a cinema that is not afraid to cross the borders of genres: video clip? Short film? Definitions are banished. In the night, ghosts are released and magic vibrates to the sound of music.

Nato nel 1977, è stato critico cinematografico per le riviste “Max”, “Têtu” e “Chronic’Art”. Ha collaborato con il gruppo di musica elettronica M83 del fratello Anthony. Il suo primo cortometraggio, By the Kiss (2006), è stato selezionato in diversi festival internazionali, compresa la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs del 2006. Successivamente, ha diretto anche altri cortometraggi, tra cui Entracte (2007) e Land of My Dreams (2012). Il suo primo lungometraggio, Les rencontres d’après minuit (2013), è stato presentato alla Semaine de la Critique a Cannes. Con lo stesso film è stato ospite della quarta edizione del Sicilia Queer Film Festival. Il suo lungometraggio successivo Un couteau dans le coeur (2018), presentato al Festival di Cannes è stato poi proiettato lo stesso anno nella sezione Panorama Queer della nona edizione del Sicilia Queer Film Festival. Il suo ultimo cortometraggio, Fou de Bassan, è stato presentato in anteprima al Festival di Locarno 2021.

Born in 1977, he worked as a film critic for Max, Têtu and Chronic’Art. He also collaborated with his brother Anthony’s electronic music band M83. His firs short film, By the Kiss (2006), was selected in several international film festivals, including 2006 Directors’ Fortnight. He also directed other short films, including Entracte (2007) and Land of My Dreams (2012). His first feature, You and the Night (2013), was presented at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and was screened at the Sicilia Queer Film Festival 2014. His follow-up feature film, Knife + Heart (2018), presented at the Cannes Film Festival was screened the same year in the Panorama Queer section of the ninth edition of the Sicilia Queer Film Festival. His latest short film, Fou de Bassan, premiered in the Locarno Film Festival 2021.
