Regista e attrice francese nata nel 1948, dopo aver ottenuto una laurea in Filosofia e Storia dell'Arte ha scritto per varie riviste, tra cui “Cinéma” e “Art press” dal 1974 al 1977; è stata stagista e allieva di Paul Vecchiali e ha lavorato come sua assistente in vari film, come Corps à cœur nel 1978. Nel frattempo, per guadagnarsi da vivere ha anche lavorato a lungo come commessa, fattorina, cassiera e maschera al cinema; questo percorso professionale eclettico le ha fornito il materiale per il suo primo lungometraggio, Simone Barbès ou la vertu, acclamato dalla critica nel 1980. Marie-Claude Treilhou ha poi insegnato Cinema documentario agli Ateliers Varan. Fedele alla scuola del suo mentore Vecchiali ed alla linea tracciata dalla casa di produzione Diagonale, ha sempre navigato al confine tra fiction e documentario rivendicando un cinema impegnato ed a budget ridotto con attori spesso non professionisti. Tra le sue opere più famose ricordiamo Le jour des rois, con un cast eccezionalmente ricchissimo di volti celebri del cinema francese (Danielle Darrieux, Paulette Dubost, Micheline Presle, Robert Lamoureux e Michel Galabru), Il été une fois la télé, Une sale histoire de sardines e Un petit cas de conscience, quest’ultimo con Claire Simon, Dominique Cabrera ed Alain Guiraudie.

French director and actress born in 1948, after obtaining a degree in Philosophy and Art History, she wrote for several magazines, such as "Cinéma" and "Art press" from 1974 to 1977; she was a stagiaire and pupil of Paul Vecchiali and she worked as his assistant on many films, including Corps à cœur in 1978. In the meantime, she also worked as a saleswoman, delivery girl, cashier and usher in the cinemas to earn a living; that eclectic career gave her inspiration for her first feature film, Simone Barbès ou la vertu, acclaimed by the critics in 1980. Then, Marie-Claude Treilhou taught Documentary Film at the Ateliers Varan. Always faithful to the style of her mentor Vecchiali and to the line drawn by the Diagonale production company, she has always navigated on the borderline between fiction and documentary, claiming an engaged and low-budget cinema with often non-professional actors. Her most famous works are: Le jour des rois, with an extraordinary rich cast composed by famous faces from French cinema (Danielle Darrieux, Paulette Dubost, Micheline Presle, Robert Lamoureux and Michel Galabru), Il été une fois la télé, Une sale histoire de sardines and Un petit cas de conscience, the latter with Claire Simon, Dominique Cabrera and Alain Guiraudie.
