Nina e Madeleine, due pensionate, sono segretamente innamorate da decenni. Per tutti, inclusa la famiglia di Madeleine, sono semplicemente le dirimpettaie dell’ultimo piano del palazzo. Le due, in realtà, vanno e vengono tra gli appartamenti condividendo la tenerezza del quotidiano. Finché, un giorno, il legame viene messo alla prova da un limite improvviso alla loro libertà.
Rievocando la grazia nel tratteggiare un amore di tarda età – ostacolato dagli eventi e da figli ottusamente egoisti – dell’ultimo Comencini (), Meneghetti colora una storia in apparenza classica di tinte noir ed oniriche in un gioco tra realtà e memoria che sfugge al melodramma. Sostenuto da interpreti che sfidano la gamma tonale, dalla commedia di situazione all’intensità drammatica degli sguardi, il film è un vero omaggio alla pervicacia dell’amore.

Nina and Madeleine, two retired women, are secretly in love for decades. From everybody's point of view, including Madeleine's family, they are simply neighbors living on the top floor of their building. They come and go between their two apartments, sharing the tender delights of everyday life. Until, one day, their bond is put to the test when they are suddenly unable to move freely between each other's apartments.
Bringing back to mind the graceful depiction of elderly lovers hindered by events and obtuse children of the last Comencini's movie , Meneghetti blends a seemingly classic narrative with noir and dreamlike elements, therefore achieving a mix of realism and reminiscence preventing melodrama. Nato vicino Padova, ha studiato regia ed antropologia a Roma. Ha inoltre lavorato a New York nel circuito indipendente tra cinema e teatro. Nel 2009 collabora alla scrittura del lungometraggio Imago Mortis di Stefano Bessoni e presenta il proprio documentario Maistrac: Lavorare in cantiere. Meneghetti è stato primo assistente alla regia per diversi anni prima di iniziare a dirigere cortometraggi, Undici (co-diretto con Piero Tomaselli) e L’intruso, presentato e premiato in numerosi festival italiani ed esteri. Nel 2018, si trasferisce in Francia dove realizza il corto successivo, La bête, presentato, nel 2019, in competizione al SXSW. Deux, debutto nel lungometraggio, è stato presentato in prima mondiale al TIFF 2019, al quale sono seguiti, tra gli altri, i festival internazionali BFI (Londra) e la Festa del Cinema (Roma).

Born near Padova, Italy, he studied film directing and Anthropology in Rome. He has also worked in New York both in the theatre and movie’s city’s Indie film circuit. In 2009, he co-wrote Stefano Bessoni’s feature Imago Mortis and released his documentary debut Maistrac: Lavorare in cantiere. Meneghetti has worked as a first assistant for several years before starting to direct his short films, Undici (co-directed by Piero Tomaselli) and L’intruso, which screened and garnered prizes at festivals in Italy and abroad. In 2018, he moved to France, where he made his next short, La bête (The Beast), which screened in competition at SXSW 2019. Two Of Us, his first feature, has had its world premiere at TIFF 2019, followed by London’s BFI and Rome’s International Film Festivals, among the others.
