“Forse il guardare inizia prima di aprire gli occhi”: questo è l’enigmatico brano in esergo con il quale si apre Azul Vazante. Le immagini successive non sono meno misteriose: notte, una cattedrale gotica sullo sfondo, un letto di ospedale al centro di una piazza, una donna matura – probabilmente una madre – che veglia il degente, il paesaggio sonoro di canti e preghiere animatosi non lontano dal letto, il dettaglio dello smalto azzurro del malato. Su questi elementi di partenza il pubblico può provare a ricostruire il senso di una storia che parla alla coscienza di ciascun individuo e riconosce la sofferta esposizione di tutte le minoranze.
Attraverso uno stile registico che ricorda il cinema del maestro Pedro Costa, Azul Vazante è un coacervo di simboli onirici, religiosi e politici.

“Perhaps looking begins before the eyelids open”: this is the enigmatic excerpt with which Azul Vazante opens. The subsequent images are no less mysterious: late night, a gothic cathedral in the background, a hospital bed in the center of the square, a mature woman – probably a mother – is watching over the patient, a soundscape of chants and prayers lifts up not far from the bed, a close-up of the hands of the patient whose nails are painted of light blue. From these elements the audience can try to reconstruct the meaning of a story that speaks to the conscience of each individual and acknowledges the tormented exposition of all minorities.
Through a directorial style reminiscent of Master Pedro Costa’s cinema, Azul Vazante is a mixture of dreamlike, religious and political symbols.

Ha conseguito un master in Teoria della Letteratura presso l’Università di San Paolo, Brasile, studiando i rapporti tra letteratura e cinema. È autrice delle tv brasiliane Record e Disney, nonché sceneggiatrice delle prime tre stagioni della serie talent di Disney Channel, Thatl, prima serie Disney mai prodotta in Brasile. Ha diretto il cortometraggio Azul Vazante, selezionato per la Tiradentes Cinema e per diversi festival internazionali come Visions du Réel, Wicked Queer e Uppsala Kortfilmfest. Ha anche diretto un documentario sui sieropositivi over 50. Insegna cinema e scrittura creativa in diverse scuole brasiliane.

She holds a MA in Literary Theory at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where she studied the correlations between literature and cinema. She is an author for the Brazilian TV channels Record and Disney, as well as screenwriter of the first three seasons of the Disney Channel talent, Thatl, the first Disney series ever produced in Brazil. She directed the short film Azul Vazante, selected at the Tiradentes Cinema and at several international film festivals such as Visions du Réel, Wicked Queer and Uppsala Kortfilmfest. She also directed a documentary about HIV-positive people over 50. She teaches cinema and creative writing in various Brazilian schools.
