Figura cult della lucha libre dichiaratamente omosessuale, Cassandro è famoso per i suoi talenti sportivi ed anche come exótico, una categoria di lottatori che combattono travestiti. Malgrado le difficoltà incontrate nella sua carriera, tra tentativi di suicidio e tossicodipendenza, ha ottenuto riconoscimenti grazie ai suoi successi e si è affermato come uno dei personaggi queer più importanti del wrestling, trasformando il ring in una metafora della lotta per affermare il diritto di assumere la propria identità.
Marie Losier segue Cassandro nella sua vita quotidiana, tra incontri di wrestling e periodi di risposo, filmando con una grande tenerezza il corpo dello sportivo coperto di cicatrici, che racconta una storia di lotta e di sofferenza, ma anche di vittoria.

An overtly gay cult figure from Lucha Libre, Cassandro is famous for his talent and also as an “exótico”, a category of wrestlers that fight wearing drag. Despite the obstacles faced during his career, between suicide attempts and drug addiction, he obtained recognition thanks to his successes establishing as one of the most important queer wrestling characters, transforming the ring into a metaphor of the fight to assert the right to assume his own identity.
Marie Losier follows Cassandro in his daily life, between wrestling matches and resting periods, filming with great tenderness the body of the athlete covered by scars, who tells a story of fight and suffering, but also of victory

Nata nel 1972, ha studiato letteratura a Parigi e belle arti a New York, dove ha conosciuto le figure più importanti della scena underground. Definita da Nicole Brenez come “una bambina scappata della scena delle piume di Zero in condotta” di Jean Vigo, ha prodotto un corpus di opere che documentano la vita quotidiana di artisti d’avanguardia in un modo onirico e poetico. I suoi cortometraggi sono ritratti documentari dei suoi amici registi, musicisti e compositori quali Alan Vega, Jonas Mekas, Peaches, George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad e Genesis P-Orridge. Il suo primo lungometraggio, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye ha vinto una decina di premi, mentre il suo secondo Cassandro, the Exotico! è stato proiettato al Festival di Cannes. I suoi film sono sovente proiettati in musei come la Tate Modern (Londra), il Moma (NYC), il Centro Pompidou (Parigi) e il Whitney Museum (NYC).

Born in 1972, she has studied literature in Paris and fine arts in New York, where she met most important figures from the underground scene. Described by Nicole Brenez as “a child escaped from the feathers scene in Zero for Conduct” by Jean Vigo, she is the author of works that document the daily life of avantgarde artists in a dream-like and poetic way. Her short films are portraits of her director, musician and composer friends, such as Alan Vega, Jonas Mekas, Peaches, George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad and Genesis P-Orridge. Her first feature film The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye has been awarded a dozen of prices, while her second feature Cassandro, the Exotico! has been shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Her films are regularly presented in such museums as the Tate Modern (London), the Moma (NYC), the Pompidou Center (Paris) and the Whitney Museum (NYC).
