Come altri parenti della famiglia Moreno, le sorelle Rossy, Esther e Cynthia sono lottatrici professioniste di lucha libre. Non c’è dubbio: lottare è la passione della loro vita. Lo fanno ovunque, non solo sul ring, ma anche a casa, dove il soggiorno può trasformarsi all’improvviso in un’arena di wrestling, a ritmo di cha cha cha. Quando non lottano, Rossy cucina nel suo ristorante, Esther si occupa di suo figlio, mentre Cynthia si esercita. In questi momenti di pausa parlano della loro traiettoria di vita e dell’evoluzione dei loro rapporti. Marie Losier filma i corpi delle tre donne con grande tenerezza, in un modo che ricorda l’opera di Fellini o di Werner Schroeter, affascinata dalla loro esuberanza e generosità. Un film che anticipa di qualche anno il ritratto del più celebre tra gli exoticos: il lottatore Cassandro cui dedicherà nel 2018 un lungometraggio.

Like many relatives from the Moreno family, the sisters Rossy, Esther and Cynthia are professional lucha libre wrestlers. There is no doubt about it: wrestling is their life passion. They do it everywhere, not only on the ring, but also at home. The living room may suddenly be turned into a wrestling area, cheered up by the cha cha cha rhythm. When they do not fight, Rossy cooks in her restaurant, Esther looks after her son, while Cynthia works out. In these moments of break they talk about their life course and the evolution of their relationship. Marie Losier films the three women’s exuberant and generous bodies with great tenderness, in a manner reminiscent of Fellini’s and Werner Schroeter’s works. This short film was made a few years before Losier’s portrait of the most famous exotico, namely the wrestler Cassandro, protagonist of her 2018 feature Cassandro, the Exotico!.

Nata nel 1972, ha studiato letteratura a Parigi e belle arti a New York, dove ha conosciuto le figure più importanti della scena underground. Definita da Nicole Brenez come “una bambina scappata della scena delle piume di Zero in condotta” di Jean Vigo, ha prodotto un corpus di opere che documentano la vita quotidiana di artisti d’avanguardia in un modo onirico e poetico. I suoi cortometraggi sono ritratti documentari dei suoi amici registi, musicisti e compositori quali Alan Vega, Jonas Mekas, Peaches, George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad e Genesis P-Orridge. Il suo primo lungometraggio, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye ha vinto una decina di premi, mentre il suo secondo Cassandro, the Exotico! è stato proiettato al Festival di Cannes. I suoi film sono sovente proiettati in musei come la Tate Modern (Londra), il Moma (NYC), il Centro Pompidou (Parigi) e il Whitney Museum (NYC).

Born in 1972, she has studied literature in Paris and fine arts in New York, where she met most important figures from the underground scene. Described by Nicole Brenez as “a child escaped from the feathers scene in Zero for Conduct” by Jean Vigo, she is the author of works that document the daily life of avantgarde artists in a dream-like and poetic way. Her short films are portraits of her director, musician and composer friends, such as Alan Vega, Jonas Mekas, Peaches, George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad and Genesis P-Orridge. Her first feature film The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye has been awarded a dozen of prices, while her second feature Cassandro, the Exotico! has been shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Her films are regularly presented in such museums as the Tate Modern (London), the Moma (NYC), the Pompidou Center (Paris) and the Whitney Museum (NYC).
