In piena notte, un giovane cammina in una strada deserta verso una destinazione ignota. A un certo punto si ferma e telefona alla madre, lasciandole un messaggio in segreteria. Le sue parole, però, fanno trasparire una realtà radicalmente diversa da quella che sta vivendo. Costruito come un vero e proprio thriller, Rafael Last Time Seen mette in scena una storia misteriosa e dall’esito imprevedibile ambientata in un luogo sospeso. Un’ideale seconda parte – il cortometraggio Choice – aggiunge qualche ulteriore dettaglio, continuando a ricorrere a elementi narrativi tutt’altro che scontati.
In the middle of the night, a young man walks in an empty street towards an unknown destination. He calls his mother and leaves her a voice message. His words and actions show two very different realities. Rafael Last Time Seen tells a mysterious story – an actual thriller – set in a suspended place till an unpredictable ending. A second part – Choice – adds some elements but always getting rid of predictable narrative elements.
Rafael Valério
Rafael Valério nasce in Brasile nel 1988 da una famiglia italo-brasiliana. Estimatore del cinema di Fellini, Rohmer, von Trier, Almodóvar ma anche di Buffy l'ammazzavampiri, Ally McBeal, X Files e Six Feet Under, studia cinema a San Paolo. Trasferitosi in Francia, si diploma in cinema a Montpellier prima di ottenere un master in sceneggiatura e regia alla Sorbonne. Lavora quindi in qualità di stagista come lettore e consulente di sceneggiatura. Nel 2015 crea un collettivo dedito alla produzione, con il quale co-produce e co-dirige il cortometraggio J'ai vu l'amour, selezionato per il concorso del Côté Court – Festival international du film court de Pantin nel 2016. Nelle estati del 2016 e 2017 partecipa a CinemadaMare, dove autoproduce otto cortometraggi e produce cortometraggi altrui. I suoi primi cortometraggi proiettati nel mondo sono Rafael Last Time Seen e Choice, film che mescolano elementi autobiografici e storie LGBT.
Rafael Valério was born in Brazil in 1988, from a Brazilian-Italian family. Admirer of the films of Fellini, Rohmer, Lars von Trier, Almodóvar but also of the adventures of Buffy the vampire slayer, Ally Mcbeal, The X Files and Six Feet Under, he began studying cinema in Sao Paulo. He then left for France, where he graduated in cinema in Montpellier, then got a professional Master Degree in cinema script writing and directing at the Sorbonne. Passionate about script writing and reading, he worked as intern then as a script reader and script doctor. In 2015 he created a production collective, with which he co-produced and co-directed the short film J’ai vu l’amour, screened at the competition section of the Pantin Short Film Festival in 2016. In the summer of 2016 and 2017, he participated in CinemadaMare, where he self-produced and directed 8 short films, but also produced for other directors. His first personal short films to be screened around the world are Rafael Last Time Seen and Choice, short films mixing autobiographical content and LGBT stories.
