Pedro torna a casa all’alba. Prima che il giovane possa addormentarsi, sua madre lo trascina in spiaggia. Qui Pedro incontra uno sconosciuto e, con una scusa qualunque, lo segue dietro le dune, lasciando la madre sola in una spiaggia quasi deserta ad aspettare un appuntamento che forse non arriverà mai. Girato nei sobborghi di Lisbona, Pedro è un dramma familiare che narra di un adolescente e della madre di mezza età in un giorno di fine estate. Il film, costruito attorno alle aspettative del protagonista su intimità e desiderio, ha il merito di mettere a fuoco l’ambiguità delle relazioni umane senza concedere mai spazio ai luoghi comuni.
Pedro gets back home at dawn. Before the young man can fall asleep, his mother drags him to the beach. Here Pedro encounters a stranger and follows him behind the dunes with an excuse, leaving his mother alone in a deserted beach waiting for a date that perhaps will never show up. Pedro is a family drama shot in the suburbs of Lisbon that narrates of a teenager and his middle-aged mother, on a late summer day. Built around the protagonist’s expectations on intimacy and desire, the film has the merit of focusing on the ambiguity of human relationships while giving no space to clichés.

Hanno iniziato la loro lunga collaborazione nel 2008. Da allora, hanno co-diretto A Nossa Necessidade de Consolo, Cavalos Selvagens, Infinito, realizzato in collaborazione con Le Fresnoy/IndieLisboa, e Má Raça, premiato a IndieLisboa ’13 con la menzione speciale della giuria e con il New Talent Award. Tutti i loro film sono stati presentati a numerosi festival in tutto il mondo. André affianca l’attività di cineasta a quella di direttore della fotografia.
They started their long-lasting collaboration in 2008. Since then, they co-directed Our Necessity for Comfort, Wild Horses, Infinite, with Le Fresnoy/IndieLisboa, and Bad Blood, doubly awarded at IndieLisboa ’13. All their films were screened in several film festivals around the world. Besides his work as filmmaker, André also works as a cinematographer.
