La quindicenne Zoé entra in un rigido collegio in cui gli studenti studiano con atteggiamento apatico e indifferente. La violenza dell’istituzione appare dietro le maschere ossequiose dei supervisori ma, grazie all’incontro con Marie, Zoé scoprirà le potenzialità del proprio corpo e soprattutto il mistero che si cela dietro quell’atmosfera inquietante. Combinando sapientemente genere vampiresco e sguardo d’autore, cinema fantastico e politica, Ceux qui peuvent mourir esprime una narrazione aperta a una temporalità reversibile. In questo microcosmo, isolato e al contempo vincolato alla realtà esterna da “patti di sangue”, si respira il clima asettico del “mondo nuovo” huxleiano, dove vige una crudeltà sorda e perturbante.
Zoé, 15 years old, enters a strict boarding school. Around her, pupils are attending classes with faded eyes. Through their obsequious facade, the supervisors’ violence lurks. One day Zoé meets Marie and understands what they are destined for and, above all, what her body can do. Skilfully combining vampire genre and art-house gaze, fantasy movies and politics, the narrative unfolds under the assumption of time reversibility. Isolated and bound by external reality with its “blood oaths”, this microcosm is permeated by an aseptic climate as like in the Huxleian’s brave new world, ruled over with a subtle and perturbing cruelty.

Si laurea in cinema presso l’Università Paris 3 con una tesi sull’estetica libertaria nel cinema di Armand Gatti il cui influsso, in una certa misura, è tuttora percepibile nelle sue opere. Dal 2011 al 2016 ha realizzato quattro cortometraggi autoprodotti che sono stati proiettati in numerosi festival. Pur trattandosi del primo film realizzato con una maggiore disponibilità di risorse, Ceux qui peuvent mourir non si distacca dalle opere precedenti, preferendo continuare un percorso personale volto a ritracciare, ogni volta, il confine tra cinema di finzione e sperimentazione.
She graduated in cinema at the University Paris 3 with a thesis on libertarian aesthetics in the cinema of Armand Gatti, whose influence, to a certain extent, is still noticeable in her works. From 2011 to 2016 she directed four self-produced short films that were shown at numerous festivals. Despite being the first film made with a greater availability of resources, Ceux qui peuvent mourir is not detached from her previous works, as it pursues a personal path with the aim of retracing the boundary between fictional and experimental cinema.
