Metamorfosi Napoletane. Il signor Rotpeter

Sulle pagine di una rivista, nel 1917, appare un racconto firmato da Franz Kafka. Il racconto, Una relazione per un’Accademia, è una lezione universitaria tenuta dal signor Rotpeter, una scimmia diventata uomo, nella quale si ripercorrono le fasi della sua metamorfosi. Il ritratto immaginario di Antonietta De Lillo si muove su due piani: da una parte i frammenti della lezione universitaria kafkiana, come fossero la messinscena del passato del protagonista, dall’altro il suo presente. La regista crea così un personaggio cinematografico che porta in sé istanze senza tempo quali libertà, sopravvivenza, via d’uscita, e ne fa un ritratto immerso nella nostra contemporaneità.
In 1917, a short story by Franz Kafka appears in a German monthly. The writing, called A Report to an Academy, is an academic lecture given by Mister Red Peter, an ape who became a human being and who now describes to his audience all the steps of his metamorphosis. The imaginary portrait depicted by Antonietta De Lillo covers two different narrative lines: on the one hand, the fragments of the Kafkian lecture, as a mise-en-scène of Mister Red Peter’s past; on the other hand, his present. In Il signor Rotpeter, De Lillo creates a film character who is the manifestation of timeless aspirations such as freedom, surviving, escaping, and makes them into a portrait of our contemporaneity.
