1975: il Portogallo post-rivoluzionario comincia a riemerge dopo più di quarant’anni di dittatura. Dopo un lungo soggiorno a Bruxelles, il poeta Al Berto fa ritorno a Sines, deciso a portare avanti un’altra rivoluzione, più intima e, forse per questo, ancora più universale. Stabilitosi illegalmente in un palazzo espropriato alla sua famiglia, il giovane entra in contatto con i propri coetanei, con i quali condivide la passione per la poesia, e si innamora del musicista João Maria (nella vita reale il fratellastro del regista). I suoi modi disinvolti ed eccentrici attireranno però su di lui le ire dei più conservatori. Eludendo i vincoli della narrazione cronologica, si focalizza su alcuni aspetti della personalità del celebre poeta lusitano – scomparso nel 1997 – lontani dalla sua immagine pubblica.
1975: post-revolutionary Portugal begins to emerge from over fourty years of dictatorship. After several years in Brussels, the poet Al Berto returns to Sines, determined to carry on another revolution, more intimate and, perhaps for this reason, even more universal. Settling illegally in a mansion that had been expropriated from his family, the young man starts to hang out with locals who share his interest in poetry and falls in love with the musician João Maria (who was, in real life, the director’s half-brother). However, his casual and whimsical ways will make him incur the wrath of the most conservative people. Eluding the constraints of chronological narration, focuses on some aspects of the personality of the famous Portuguese poet – who died in 1997 – that are far from the collective imagination.

Nato a Sines nel 1972, è sceneggiatore e regista. Ha iniziato la sua carriera nel 2000 scrivendo sceneggiature per la televisione e cortometraggi. Ha poi iniziato a scrivere sceneggiature per lungometraggi. Ha diretto il suo primo cortometraggio Entre o Desejo e o Destino nel 2005. Quinze Pontos na Alma (2011) è il suo primo lungometraggio. Nel 2012 ha scritto e diretto il suo secondo lungometraggio, Florbela, basato sulla biografia del poeta portoghese Florbela Espanca. Il film è stato un grande successo al botteghino tanto che, nello stesso anno, ha prodotto la serie tv Perdidamente Florbela.
Born in Sines in 1972, he is a screenwriter and director. He started his career in 2000, writing scripts for tv and short films. Afterwards, he began to write scripts for feature films. He directed his first short film Entre o Desejo e o Destino in 2005. He made his feature film debut with the drama Quinze Pontos na Alma (2011). In 2012 he wrote and directed his next feature, Florbela, based on the biography of the Portuguese poet Florbela Espanca. The film was a big box office hit, and that same year, he produced the tv series Perdidamente Florbela.
