Lo strumento cinematografico è utilizzato da Bertrand Mandico come un’elegia al dionisiaco e all’inesauribile forza delle sue immagini come veicolo sensoriale. I garçons sauvages del suo racconto, un gruppo di ricchi e depravati adolescenti di La Réunion, violentano e uccidono la loro insegnante, diventando in tal modo Trevor, una sorta di divinità pagana assetata di sangue. Da quel momento vengono presi in custodia dal Capitano, che li renderà suoi schiavi e li costringerà ad attraversare l’oceano fino ad approdare su un’isola dai misteriosi poteri, che li muterà in maniera irreversibile. Bertrand Mandico non teme di scandalizzare il pubblico, in questo film che gioca sul gender tramite un’ironia estrema, violenta, folle e iconoclasta.
The cinematographic instrument is used by Bertrand Mandico as an elegy to the Dionysian and to the inexhaustible force of its images as a sensory vehicle. The of his story, a group of rich and depraved teenagers of La Reunion, rape and kill their teacher, thus becoming Trevor, a sort of blood-thirsty pagan deity. From that moment, they are taken into custody by the Captain, who will make them his slaves and force them to cross the ocean. They will arrive on an island with mysterious powers, which will change them irreversibly. Bertrand Mandico is not afraid of scandalizing the public, in this film that plays on gender through an extreme, violent, mad and iconoclastic irony.

Nato nel 1971, frequenta l’École de l’image Gobelins di Parigi dove consegue il diploma in cinema d’animazione nel 1993. Nella sua carriera di cineasta, tuttavia, realizza un unico cortometraggio di animazione, Le cavalier bleu. Ha scritto e diretto numerosi corti e mediometraggi, selezionati in vari festival internazionali. Tra questi, Boro in the Box è stato presentato alla Quinzaine des Réalisateurs del Festival di Cannes, mentre La résurrection des natures mortes è stato selezionato alla Mostra d’arte cinematografica di Venezia. Mandico lavora anche a un progetto che lo vede impegnato a fianco dell’attrice Elina Löwenson nella realizzazione di ventuno cortometraggi in ventuno anni. Les Garçons Sauvages è il suo primo lungometraggio.
Born in 1971, he attended the École de l'image Gobelins in Paris where he graduated in animation in 1993. However, his career as a filmmaker includes a single animated short film, Le cavalier bleu. He wrote and directed numerous short and medium-length films, selected in various international film festivals. Among these, Boro in the Box was presented at Cannes Directors' Fortnight, while Living Still Life was selected at the Venice Film Festival. Mandico is also working on the creation of twenty-one short films in twenty-one years alongside actress Elina Löwenson. The Wild Boys is his first feature film.
