La vita solitaria e monotona della sessantenne Liliane Cheverny, guarnitrice per un’azienda che produce pâté, cambia improvvisamente il suo percorso nel momento in cui il ventenne Jean mette piede nella fabbrica. Invaghita del ragazzo, che la riconosce come un’ex cantante caduta in disgrazia, famosa trent’anni prima con il nome d’arte di Laura, un’inizialmente reticente Liliane accetta di tornare a calcare il palcoscenico. La love story ritratta da Bavo Defurne ci mostra una parabola di vita fatta di ascese e rovinose cadute, e fino all’ultimo istante non concede allo spettatore il privilegio di sapere con quale delle due finiranno le vicissitudini della protagonista.
The lonely and monotonous life of sixty-year-old Liliane Cheverny, a trimmer in a company that produces pâté, suddenly changes its path when twenty-year-old Jean sets foot in the factory. Infatuated with the boy, who recognizes her as a former disgraced singer who had been popular thirty years back by the stage name of Laura, Liliane, reticent at first, endorses the idea of getting back on stage. The love story depicted by Bavo Defurne shows us a parable of life made of ascents and ruinous falls that, up until the very last moment, does not grant the viewer the privilege of knowing with which of the two, whether ascents or falls, Liliane’s misadventures will end.
Bavo Defurne
Bavo Defurne è uno sceneggiatore e regista celebre principalmente per Souvenir (2016), interpretato da Isabelle Huppert. Ha esordito con North Sea Texas (2012), che è uscito negli USA, in Inghilterra, Francia e Germania e ha riscosso grande successo su Netflix. Defurne è emerso come nuovo talento girando una serie di cortometraggi – il più noto dei quali è Campfire – premiati in vari festival. Prima di iniziare la sua carriera da regista, ha lavorato come arredatore sui set di Peter Greenaway e come assistente alla regia per il media artist Matthias Müller. Ha inoltre girato numerose pubblicità, e ha diretto il videoclip di Anger Never Dies degli Hooverphonic.
Writer-Director Bavo Defurne is best known for Souvenir starring Isabelle Huppert. Defurne's award-winning debut feature Nordzee, Texas (2012) was released in the USA, the United Kingdom, France and Germany and became a Netflix favorite. Defurne established himself as a new talent with a series of award-winning short films, of which Campfire is the best known. Before starting his career as a director, he worked as a decorator for Peter Greenaway and as assistant director of the media artist Matthias Müller. He has made many commercials, and also the music video of Anger Never Dies by the Hooverphonic.
